The Best Casinos in Michigan for 2026

When you’re planning a trip that involves casino visits, I dare say that Las Vegas and Atlantic City are the US locations that will immediately come to mind. There is, though, plenty of reasons to consider Michigan too.

Michigan is the 11^th largest state in the United States and is made of two very distinct regions. The Upper Peninsula is less populated and is a huge tourist attraction with an abundance of natural resources. The Lower Peninsula, meanwhile, is heavily populated and known for its industrial and manufacturing prowess.  

The two areas are separated by the Straits of Mackinac, a five-mile channel that joins Lake Huron to Lake Michigan.

Ask anyone what Michigan is famous for and they’ll usually say cars, Motown music or the Great Lakes that surround it. Casinos probably wouldn’t be top of the list, that’s for sure.

But actually, due to the rich history and occupation of Native American tribes in Michigan, there are in fact 28 casinos in the state, 25 of which are tribal and three commercial.

Differing hugely in size, layout, amenities, location and popularity, the quality of Michigan casinos can vary significantly. With that in mind, here’s a look at what I consider to be the top seven casinos in Michigan.

Carrying the famous MGM name, MGM Grand Detroit casino delivers a full Vegas-style experience. It has over 2,500 slots, 160 table games, poker, and a sportsbook across 100,000 sq ft of gaming space. Add a 400-room hotel, spa, infinity pool, restaurants, and entertainment venues, and it’s a top all-rounder. The MGM Rewards program sweetens the deal with free stays, show tickets, and credits. Close to downtown, it offers skyline views but a little less character than other MGM resorts.

Paying tribute to Detroit’s automotive legacy, MotorCity combines retro car design with modern style. The casino floor offers 2,700 slots, 70+ tables, a poker room, sportsbook, and high-limit gaming. Amenities include a 400-room hotel, spa, fitness centre, fine dining at Iridescence, and live shows at Sound Board. Guests get free shuttles to nearby sports venues, making it a strong choice for Detroit sports fans.

Operated by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation, this is Michigan’s largest casino at 210,000 sq ft with 3,200 slots, 70 tables, poker, bingo, and sportsbook. Beyond gaming, it features a 500-room hotel, water park, spa, and indoor/outdoor concert venues with top performers. Dining ranges from Ruth’s Chris to casual diners. Its Native American design blends tradition with modern touches like the Ascend Sports Bar and nightclub.

Located in Battle Creek, FireKeepers offers 2,900 slots, 65 table games, a 26-table poker room, sportsbook, and high-limit lounge. Its 446-room hotel includes pools, spa, and fitness centre. Entertainment spans concerts, comedy, and live music. Dining highlights include Nibi for upscale meals and Smoke ‘n Fire for casual dining. Stylish and modern, FireKeepers delivers a big-resort feel, with easy highway access and RV parking.

Set in a historic Detroit building, this casino blends exposed brick, metal walkways, and neon flair. Spread over three floors, it offers 2,200 slots, 60 tables, poker, and a sportsbook. The 400-room boutique-style hotel provides great views of the river and Canada. While it lacks a spa or pool, its central location in Greektown means endless restaurants, nightlife, and sports venues are just steps away.
