FanDuel has announced its intent to enter Alberta's regulated iGaming market on July 13 and will be bringing an exclusive game franchise to the province, pending regulatory approval. The platform has partnered with Light and Wonder to bring the Huff N' Puff game series to Alberta players on its platforms.
FanDuel has been live in Ontario since April 2022, making FanDuel Alberta the brand’s second Canadian platform. The company also renewed its partnership with the Canadian Football League, which now extends to Alberta alongside Ontario.
"Alberta represents an exciting new chapter for FanDuel Canada, and we look forward to the opportunity to bring our industry-leading Casino and Sportsbook experience to players across the province," said Dale Hooper, general manager of FanDuel Canada.
Alberta's new iGaming market will have a multi-operator model similar to Ontario's, which requires licensed operators to meet regulatory requirements set by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) before accepting wagers from residents.
FanDuel is already on the AGLC's list of licensed operators and is planning to be among the first available on day one. As of July 7, 49 operators had successfully completed the registration process.
Players in the province over 18 can already create an account before the July 13 launch, and users will need to verify their age, identity, and Alberta location before they can wager. The FanDuel betting app will be available on iOS, Android, and all web browsers.
The Huff N' Puff exclusive content deal with Light and Wonder should help FanDuel differentiate itself in the crowded Alberta launch environment. The Huff N' Puff franchise is one of the most recognizable slot series in North American casinos, and making it exclusive to FanDuel will increase players' likelihood of choosing it over competitors with a similar library.
FanDuel has also renewed its partnership with the Canadian Football League (CFL) in a multi-year agreement, expanding beyond Ontario to include Alberta. The league’s 113th Grey Cup will be held this year in Calgary on November 15 to decide the 2026 championship. The Grey Cup is Canada's largest annual sporting event, regularly drawing a Canadian television audience hovering around 4 million viewers.
On the commercial side, FanDuel has agreements with the NHL, NFL, NBA, and WNBA, as well as a deal with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment in Ontario, the parent company of the Leafs and the Raptors.
FanDuel officials have noted that the company is looking to be good corporate citizens as they enter the recently opened market.
"As we plan to enter this new market, we're committed to delivering a best-in-class entertainment experience,” Hooper said, “and meaningful community engagement remains at the heart of everything we do."
The company is donating $50,000 to the A Dollar a Day Foundation, which funds frontline mental health programs in Alberta. FanDuel has supported the organization for three years, contributing more than $150,000 to mental health organizations across Alberta and Ontario combined.
An additional $30,000 donation is going to the Canadian Red Cross Emergency Management Program in Alberta to support disaster preparedness and crisis recovery.
FanDuel was also the title sponsor of the Cowboys Stampede Showdown Charity Poker Tournament, which benefits the Calgary Stampede Foundation and supports community and young Albertans. The foundation has raised a record $260,000 in 2026 and more than $1.3 million overall since the tournament began.
