The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) and the UK Gambling Commission have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The CEO of GRAI, Anne Marie Caulfield, said she was delighted to host the CEO of the UK Gambling Commission, Andrew Rhodes, in Dublin on Wednesday, April 2.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation and sets out the broad principles of collaboration between the Gambling Regulator and the UK Gambling Commission.

The shared aims of both regulators are to enable closer working relationships, which will enhance each organisation's ability to discharge their respective duties and functions.

As well as signing the document, there was a constructive bilateral meeting, which discussed areas such as compliance, monitoring, and enforcement, along with other regulatory matters relevant to both jurisdictions.

The GRAI plans to sign more MOUs with other EU gambling regulators soon.

CEO of GRAI Welcomes Open Dialogue and Cooperation

In welcoming the agreement, CEO of the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland, Anne Marie Caulfield, said:

“This Memorandum of Understanding with the UK Gambling Commission is an important step in formalising the working relationship between the two regulators, and I would like to thank Andrew Rhodes and a number of his colleagues across the various areas of the Commission for their advice and support over the past number of months.

“Ireland and the UK share many of the same operators and gambling practices, so putting this agreement in place will enhance our ability to share information and discharge our respective regulatory responsibilities effectively.

"Open dialogue and close cooperation between both jurisdictions are paramount and I greatly look forward to continuing this close cooperation for the years to come.”

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
