I’ll be honest, I’ve had some horror-filled nights in Las Vegas, but that’s more to do with my luck at the slots and tables more than anything else.
Las Vegas, though, prides itself on being the city to be for every big occasion. Halloween is no exception, and visitors can fully embrace the spooky this year if that’s what they fancy.
So, if you’re looking to celebrate Halloween in Sin-ister City (see what we did there?) and want to know all the best scary spots, then we’ve got you covered. Here’s our top tips on where to stay and what to do to turn the Strip of Dreams into the Strip of Screams for a perfect two-night scare-away.
If you can’t resist a themed flutter, this time of year is perfect for dipping into bold new games on top-tier social casinos. Whether you're after eerie slots or just want to scoop up some free SC coins without spending a dime, there’s no shortage of spooky fun online this weekend in Vegas.
For many people, Las Vegas is the embodiment of modern, sleek and progressive. However, those sparkling neon lights hide a pretty ugly past and a multitude of sins!
Of course, there’s the well-documented mob origins, bringing more than its fair share of brutality and murder. However, there’s also a long history of construction accidents, hotel fires, and hidden suicides every year (why do you think most resorts don’t have balconies?). I’m not trying to bring the mood down too much, but suffice to say that Sin City has a dark and dangerous underbelly.
That’s good news for anyone who wants more Frankenstein and less Frank Sinatra on the Las Vegas Strip. Vegas, surprisingly, is actually a hotbed of hauntings, paranormal activity and general spooky-goings-on. Of course, as the entertainment capital of the world, Vegas also doubles down on its horror heritage with a host of scary events and activities you can visit too. With that in mind, here’s a step-by-step example itinerary on how to have a ghostly gambling getaway to remember.
Arrive on Halloween itself and throw yourself straight into the spooky shenanigans. We’re talking haunted hotel, macabre museum, scary slots and a wild costume party - could we get any more halloweeny if we tried?
Head downtown and check in at one of the oldest hotels in Las Vegas - the Hotel Apache at Binion's. Originally built in 1932, Hotel Apache actually closed in 2009 but reopened again in 2019 with a much smaller number of rooms. What happened to all the other rooms? They’re all just still there lurking, empty, waiting - hidden away from the public. That in itself is a little creepy if you ask me! But that’s not even the start of it.
Hotel Apache is easily considered the most haunted hotel in Sin City. Over the years there have been numerous reports of ghostly sightings, dismembered voices, moving objects, and shadowy figures by both hotel guests and staff.
“I heard children laughing in the empty room next door”...
”Upon walking into the room I felt my throat tightening”...
“While sitting on the bed I felt someone playing with my hair, then I heard a man laughing”...
“When I walked out of the bathroom all the bed pillows had been pushed on the floor’...
These are just a few of the anecdotal accounts that have been left by Hotel Apache Guests over the years, and there are countless more too.
Room 400 is tipped to be the creepiest of them all so be sure to request it if you can. The only room situated on the 4th floor, it’s completely isolated, you can’t even access it by elevator. You have to get off at the 3rd floor and walk the spindly stairs up to it. Inside, guests report telephone calls in the dead of night with just static on the line, moving objects, and an uneasy feeling of being watched.
You might be wondering what the hotel management makes of these ghostly goings-on? Well, they celebrate them. Not only does Hotel Apache happily market itself as a hotbed of hauntings, they even offer ‘ghost hunting kits’ to guests of room 400!
Don’t be too disappointed if you don’t get Room 400 though - there’s plenty of other rooms with regularly reported paranormal peculiarities. Even the elevators are said to be haunted with unexplained voices and cries inside the walls that disappear when the doors open. If you don’t believe us, check out some of these features from KTNV and the Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures Team where spectral activity has been investigated.
Once you’ve checked in, keep a look out for strange encounters and make a note of where you leave things - they might have moved by the time you return!
Well it would be a shame to hit the casino on Halloween and NOT play slots wouldn’t it? Sticking with our spooktacular slots theme, why not look for Aristocrat’s Spooky Link? Spooky Link has three games to choose from all with a central character - a Mummy, a Yeti and a Ghost. Being completely upfront, they are more cute than creepsville, but still, the high volatility can give you a right fright! The bonus features are usually worth waiting for though.
Next up, make a stop at Zak Bagans’ The Haunted Museum, a must-visit for Halloween hobbyists. Located at Charleston Boulevard, not far from El Cortez casino resort, Zak Bagans’ The Haunted Museum is the perfect place to get your freak on.
Based in the historic Wengert Mansion, the attraction features 30 different rooms full of cursed artefacts, secret passages and creepy hallways. Hear bone chilling stories of paranormal activity, and come face to face with items such as the Dybbuk Box, otherwise known as the most haunted object in the world and Peggy the Doll.
Only the very bravest dare to look her directly in the eyes, though. Those that do, even in a photograph, are said to inherit the ‘curse’ and feel nauseous and even suffer cases of psychosis. How daring are you?
If you survive the afternoon’s frightening frolics, then it's time to party at the Fremont Street Experience Halloween Party.
For those who haven’t ever been to the Fremont Street Experience, it's kind of hard to describe. Any Friday or Saturday night it can get pretty wild, but when you add in Vegas’ biggest Halloween celebration, it hits new heights. Or some might say depths!
The Fremont Street Experience is basically five-blocks of lightning energy. Home to nightly live music on multiple stages, downtown casinos and bars, street entertainers and all housed under the world’s largest LED canopy screen, it can get intense. The 90ft wide screen, suspended 90ft in the air, presents spectacular Viva Vision Light shows every hour. If that doesn’t dazzle you, then the people flying overhead on the Slotzilla zip line just might. And that’s just a normal night!
On Halloween it's super-charged x 1000. Word of warning, you WILL feel out of place if you’re not dressed in a Halloween costume. It's not obligatory of course, but it’s definitely the norm. The more outrageous or quirky the better - you can even enter the costume contest if you’d like. If you like to party hard, then Halloween Fremont Street style is where you want to be.
Let’s assume, for the sake of the article, that you’ve made it through the night at the Apache Hotel. I mean, you may have had some extra visitors in your bed, or standing over you watching you sleep, and your shoes may be in a different place to where you left them, but generally I’m going to plough on as if you survived. If that’s the case, then let’s go get more terrified.
First stop - an escape room> Not just any escape room, though, one based on the scarily successful Saw horror film franchise. Situated just off the Las Vegas Strip, just behind The Strat resort, the Saw Escape Room is not for the faint-hearted, that's for sure. In groups, you have to find clues, solve puzzles, and avoid Jigsaw’s traps as you make your way through multiple rooms trying to escape.
As well as impressively themed rooms, you’ll also come across live actors, special effects like fog and strobe lighting, mechanical devices and simulated traps. It’s immersive, disturbing, and a hell of a fun way to spend 70 minutes if you love horror!
This one might seem a little odd, but honestly, trust me, Circus Circus is creepy. Yes, it's family-friendly, it’s a Las Vegas icon and, yes, it and hosts free circus shows everyday but still, it's creepy as hell. It might be something to do with the clowns, Pennywise wouldn’t look out of place here. But, without even knowing any of the history, there’s something about the dim lighting, the aging décor, long corridors with dead ends, and carnival games with stuffed toys that just gives me the heebie-jeebies.
Then, when you add in the fact that there’s also reports of hauntings here, it ticks all the right boxes. Guests have reported hearing whispers in the walls, feeling cold spots, and having the feeling of being watched. Dealers and security staff are convinced they hear echoes of children’s laughter and witness darting shadows late at night when the gaming floor is empty.
Many of the reports come from guests staying in the hotel rooms themselves rather than the casino. Room 123 is the most active with housekeeping staff refusing to go in alone. Tales of ‘Help Me’ being written in the mirror, the faint cries of a child, and footsteps in the room are just a few of the anecdotes.
Personally, I think Circus Circus is ominous enough without having to stay here - drop in and check out the strange vibes for yourself. Just remember, though: if rampaging zombie clowns suddenly start climbing out of slot machines and try to eat you, you have no right to complain. You’re the one who went to Circus Circus.
I’m sure you already know who Bugsy Siegel is but, just in case, here’s a quick Las Vegas History 101. Hailed as one of the creators of Vegas as we know it today, Bugsy Siegel was a New York mobster with big hopes in Sin City. He initially owned El Cortez with other mob associates but turned his attention to the Flamingo when the original developer ran out of money.
The Flamingo was Siegel’s dream and he poured everything he could into making it a success. Unfortunately that included a lot of mob money. Although he lived to see the Flamingo open, and indeed he even lived there for a while, the mob made him pay for his debts with a gunshot just 6 months after opening. That meant that poor old Bugsy never got to see the Flamingo succeed and reach its full potential. Or did he?
According to both staff and guests at the Flamingo, the spirit of Bugsy is still very much present at the casino resort. Paranormal enthusiasts will tell you he is tied to the property because it signifies both his greatest dream and his biggest downfall. Indeed, dealers have reported seeing Bugsy’s ghost watching over the tables. Guests, too, have spoken of a shadowy figure, flickering lights, and the sound of footsteps with no one around.
The Presidential Suite, where Bugsy once lived, is said to be his favourite place to appear with guests claiming to have seen him reflected in mirrors. If you get a chance, take a walk out to the Flamingo gardens and Wildlife habitat. This is said to be a hotspot for sightings with visitors claiming to smell unexplained cigarette smoke and see a tall man dressed in 40’s attire.
So, I could have picked Circus Circus or Flamingo for the second night's stay. You’re certainly spoilt for choice in Las Vegas. However, for full-on weirdsville it has to be Luxor. I mean, some might say building a massive faux tomb in the desert was tempting fate, but even so, Luxor has some surprises! In fact, many declare it the most haunted casino in the world.
Luxor has a curse. At least, that’s what people say. It started with several deaths to construction workers during the initial build. Some even say the architecture itself is cursed as the original design omitted the pyramid’s capstone. Remember I said earlier about how most casinos don’t have balconies? Unfortunately Luxor does. But it’s even worse than that, the balconies are internal, meaning several guests have plummeted from high floors down onto the atrium beneath. It happens more than you think.
There’s an eeriness to Luxor that’s hard to put your finger on. The pyramid design helps, it creates echo chambers around the property so you hear strange things all the time. I’ve stayed there myself and when I have been on the open corridors on high floors, all by myself, I have been certain I have heard noises right behind me. It was probably just the strange way the noise travels upwards on the inside of a pyramid. I hope…
The elevators are also quirky as they travel diagonally, shuddering and stuttering as they go. Guests report feeling pushed or watched riding the elevators, there’s reports of faucets and TV’s going on and off by themselves in the upper rooms, voices, shadows and phantom footsteps too.
Be sure to request Room 30018 for your best chance of some goosebump-worthy activity. Said to be haunted by a poltergeist or ‘blonde lady’, at 8.30am on many a morning a loud, unexplained metal clanging noise has been reported in the room. It's even loud enough to disturb guests in other rooms too apparently. The following Trip Adviser review from May 2021 suggests it’s coming from the bathroom.
“Every morning around 8:30am, we would be awoken by the sound of the soap bar clinking around in the soap dish in the bathroom. It happened all 5 days of my stay, like clockwork, every time each morning. I believe this to be a residual haunting. Loses one star for not having a kitchenette in the room, otherwise it was a great stay. I came here looking for paranormal activity, and I got what I came for.”
Other guests, meanwhile, have reported waking up feeling strangled or experiencing pressure on their neck or chest.
If you can’t get that room, don’t worry, there’s enough haunted hallways for everyone! Just stick with the pyramid rooms rather than the tower rooms for maximum scare.
Well it would be a shame to check in at the Luxor and NOT play slots wouldn’t it? Sticking with our spooktacular slots theme, why not look for Little Shop of Horrors from Everi? Little Shop of Horrors features Audrey 2, the human-eating larger than life plant with a personality as big as its huge red lips. He’ll draw you in then spit you back out again, but hopefully with some winnings along the way. Oh and he’ll talk and sing to you too.
Alternatively, if you’re up for some spooky slot action, then why not look for Light and Wonder’s Universal Monsters series of slots. Frankenstein brings burning windmills, electrocuted heads, and the exciting ‘It’s Alive’ feature which you will hear from across the casino. Meanwhile, Dracula brings a dark and dangerous vibe with bats, howling wolves and a feature wheel.
Both games come in the huge 6-foot-7 Cosmic Premium cabinet, so they’re easy to spot. Plus, both have life-like 3D visuals and animations of the monsters at the top of the screen with blinking eyes that follow you around the casino floor beckoning you to play them.
If you thought the Saw escape room was fun, then you’re going to love Las Vegas’ new attraction Universal Horror Unleased. Inspired by the hugely popular Halloween Horror Nights which take place at Universal theme parks in Orlando every October, this attraction transports this living nightmare to a darkened warehouse on the edge of Las Vegas.
Now, I’ve been to one of the Halloween Horror Nights in Universal Orlando and let me tell you, a part of me is still there. Right there in the Halloween-movie themed house, in a little corner, behind a curtain, where one of several Michael Myers characters jump-scared me with a gigantic carving knife. To clarify, when I say a part of me is still there, I don’t mean literally. He didn’t accidentally take a finger off. But, without a doubt, part of my soul is still there and possibly some pee pee too.
If you’re made of stronger stuff than me then Universal Horror Unleashed is definitely your vibe. It features four rooms based on Universal brands:
Each room takes you through the nightmare for real, and you get to come face to face with the main characters as they hunt you down. If you have big boy or girl pants, I suggest you wear them and pull them up high.
There is an extra piece of Halloween fun to be had at Area 15 on October 31 with scAREA: Strange Circus. It’s a big Halloween party experience set in a post-apocalyptic carnival of chaos.
The live music will be provided by Valentino Khan and his apparently electric KHAN-O-WEEN set. Doors open at 8pm, although you will need a ticket to get in. AREA 15 is located at the North end of the Strip not far from Resorts World. A quick rideshare will get you there in no time.
Who else would you rather spend your Saturday night with than a bunch of zombies? I mean, it’s a no brainer surely! (sorry had to be done!)
Based at Planet Hollywood casino resort right in the centre of the Las Vegas Strip, Zombie Burlesque is a mix of variety, comedy, dancing and a big band too. Sit back, relax, and watch musical zombies entertain you - indeed, the undead never looked so good!
After a weekend of non-stop Halloween shenanigans, this is the perfect ending to a freaky weekend. With homages to the most famous horror movies of the 40's, 50's and 60's performed by "dead" sexy women, it’s a chance to unwind and reflect on your spooky getaway. Whether you experienced some strange shapes, mysterious murmurs or odd occurrences yourself or just had a ball trying, you’ve certainly given it a great shot!
We have provided a rough itinerary for what we think would be a pretty awesome Halloween 2025 weekend in Las Vegas, but don’t stick to our tastes by any means. There are a lot of other great options to consider.
Here are the ones we have found so far.
‘Haunted’ hotels are not uncommon in Las Vegas. We have touched on a few already with Hotel Apache at Binion’s, Circus Circus, The Flamingo, and Luxor. Indeed, many of the most haunted casinos are in Las Vegas.
El Cortez is one of the oldest casino resorts around and, despite some really swish recent refurbishments, the property is seeped in history. Mysterious knocks, shadowy figures, and even disembodied hands reaching for guests have been reported over the years.
You might also want to check out Horseshoe, right in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip. It was the site of a devastating fire back in its original MGM Grand days, and spirits still supposedly linger.
Westgate also has a dedicated Halloween themed suite. It’s not supposedly haunted, but it certainly captures the Halloween spirit. It will have been booked for Halloween a long time in advance we are sure, but it’s good to know it’s there.
If you don’t fancy a bit of Zombie Burlesque, a great alternative is Abandon. Be warned, though, it gets a bit bloodier and kinkier than the zombie girls given it’s based on the life and writings of the infamous Marquis de Sade - the de facto creator of sado-masochism. It’s certainly shock theatre rather than light-hearted, and you’ll find it at the Vegas Theatre Company in the Arts District.
Similarly, Saw is not the only horror-themed escape room in town. If being locked in a spooky room as paid live performers try to freak you out is your kind of thing, then be sure to check out The Basement.
There are three experiences from which to choose, and all promise to frighten you half to death (so two in a day is not recommended…)
If you are the kind of person for whom shopping is ‘an experience,’ then be sure to check out the Halloween Emporium. Oh, and Nightmare Toys is an absolute must if you’re a fan of classic 1980s horror movies and other pop culture.
Oh, and don’t forget the usual Las Vegas Ghost Tours. There are plenty about, and they run all year, but they have an extra bit of magic around Halloween.
If you associate being given free candy with Halloween more than being scared, then Sahara has you covered. On Halloween, you can present your Infinity Rewards card and receive a FREE Sahara chocolate bar.
Don’t be greedy, though. It’s one bar per Infinity Rewards account. Don’t want that treat turning into a trick…
A lot of people think that Halloween is for kids. We call those people rational, mature, sensible grown ups. And boring. We also call them boring. Still, boring people deserve a cool Halloween too, and kids definitely do. Thankfully, there are some family-friendly Halloween 2025 options for Las Vegas visitors.
First of all, if you don’t mind heading to Summerlin and going before Halloween itself, you can check out the Parade of Mischief. It takes place every Friday and Saturday between October 3 and 25 at 6pm. Costumes are recommended and mischievous fun is promised. Best of all, it’s free. This year there is a new Wicked float inspired by the musical/movie. There is also Harry Potter stuff going on.
There is also HallOveen at the Magical Village in Opportunity Village (6300 W. Oakey Blvd). Hundreds of jack-o-lanterns and supposedly friendly ghosts and witches have taken up residence there, with rides, trick-or-treat stations, carnival games, nightly entertainment and some golf.
If golf is your thing, then Twilight Zone by Monster Mini Golf at Horseshoe might be worth checking out too. It’s a glow-in-the-dark 18-hole course based on the legendary TV show that covers more than 10,000 square feet.
Parties! That’s what Halloween is all about. Parties without children, specifically and preferably. And we are talking about Las Vegas here, and one thing Las Vegas is never short of is parties.
A good place to start here would be Virgin Hotel Las Vegas (in 24 Oxford to be precise) and THRILLER. Regular visitors to Las Vegas need no introduction to THRILLER. It has been the top Friday Halloween party in Sin City for nearly two-decades now and especially great if you love your 80s and 90s music.
Virgin don’t stop there, though. Head to the Event Lawn on Oct 24 for AquaBats present Trick or Treat to the Beats. It’s a “Halloween Costume Party Freak Out” apparently with live DJs. On Saturday Nov 1, the resort hosts the Sin City Halloween Ball. Be aware that all are for adults only and are ticketed events.
If Downtown Las Vegas is more your vibe for Halloween, then Circa are offering a night of cocktails and costumes inside Legacy Club for Haunted Heights. You never know, you might just win the $5,000 costume contest too.
While you’re at Horseshoe for Twilight Zone Mini Golf and have managed to ditch the kids, you really should pop into The Cabinet of Curiosities Lounge and Lock Speakeasy. Both are venues that lend themselves to spookiness anyway, but around Halloween they’re even better.
There is a special Halloween Pop-Up experience with special festive cocktails, and this year you can take a mixology class too. That particular experience includes three drinks and recipes you get to take home.
If you are afraid of the dark, challenge yourself to the very unique Blackout Dining in the Dark. It is exactly how it sounds: you will be served your dinner in complete darkness. It is said the sensory deprivation heightens the taste like nothing you can anticipate.
There is also a Halloween pop-up experience at Sand Dollar Lounge on Spring Mountain Road. On Halloween night itself that includes a costume contest and music from Burn and Cherry Hill.
