Haunted Casino Ranked: Reviews Reveal the Spookiest Casinos in the World

Behind the bright lights and lively atmosphere of many casinos, a select few around the world have darker stories to tell. Some were built on mob history, others on ground rich with legend, and over the years they’ve become home to ghost stories that continue to capture the imagination.

Few know these stories better than Michael Graham, Casinos.com’s resident haunted casinos expert. Earlier this spooky season, Graham compiled a guide to the thirteen most haunted casinos, tracing the eerie folklore that surrounds some of the world’s most famous properties.

“I know casinos are generally associated with glitz and glamour, but they often come with a dark history that is ripe for ghostly tales,” Graham says. “Many of them were built upon mob history and all have been one cathedrals of high-stakes, high-emotion duels with fate.”

Building on Graham’s work, we decided to take a closer look using data rather than folklore to determine, definitively, which is the most haunted casino. By analyzing thousands of Tripadvisor reviews for spooky keywords such as haunted, ghost, creepy, and eerie, we assigned each of these thirteen casinos a Spooky Score

This hybrid score balances the number of supernatural mentions with how often they appear relative to total reviews, giving a clearer picture of which casinos guests themselves find the most unsettling.

Luxor Leads the Pack

Luxor Las Vegas claims the top spot, which will come as no surprise to anyone who has walked through its cavernous interior late at night. With over 800 spooky mentions in guest reviews, it consistently stands out for its unsettling atmosphere.

“Luxor is undeniably spooky,” says Graham. “I’ve been headed to my room in the open corridors and I’ve been certain I’ve heard disembodied noises right behind me. I’ve convinced myself it was the noise from the casino floor bouncing weirdly up the inverted walls, but who knows for certain?”

Binion’s and the Weight of History

Binion’s Hotel Apache may not have the review volume of the major Vegas resorts, but its concentrated number of ghost stories gives it a high Spooky Score. Its long, layered history makes it one of the most talked-about haunted properties in the country.

“Binion’s comes with the biggest reputation,” Graham explains. “Talk to some Hotel Apache or casino staff and you’ll do well to find one without a ghoulish paranormal tale to tell.”

A Global Haunting

The list isn’t limited to Nevada. European casinos bring their own sense of mystery, often without the flash of American resorts but with centuries of history embedded in their walls.

“European casinos have a different vibe as they tend not to come with a resort attached,” Graham says. “The weight of history really hangs in the air though.

"There is, without doubt, something about the Hippodrome in London, although it’s spooky, not scary. And Venice’s Casino di Venezia is a must visit for any serious gambling hall aficionado and it’s as eerie in certain corners as it is magnificent.”

Cal Neva Lodge & Casino, though last on the list, still holds legendary status in casino ghost lore. “I never actually got to stay at the Cal Neva before it closed for what has turned out to be lengthy refurbishments, but I wish I had,” Graham says. “Its ghost stories are legendary and really cool. It would be great if it could find a future even remotely as illustrious and storied as its past."

No Tricks: A $5k Halloween Treat is Up for Grabs

“I’ve never had any direct contact with a ghost in casinos personally,” Graham laughs. “My horror nights are delivered by slots, not spectres.”

This Halloween, Casinos.com is channeling that same spirit with , a special contest giving players the chance to win $5,000 by playing spooky slot demos and sharing their own reviews.

To enter, register as a Casinos.com member, try out any of the featured Spooky Slot games, and leave a review or comment. Each review counts as one entry, with up to 15 entries allowed per player across different games. The contest is open to participants in the UK, Ireland, Canada, and eligible U.S. states for those aged 21 and over, and runs through October 31, 2025.

Methodology

To rank the thirteen casinos, we analyzed their Tripadvisor reviews for spooky keywords commonly found in ghost stories, such as “haunted,” “ghost,” “creepy,” “eerie,” “flickering lights” and more.

We then built a hybrid “Spooky Score” with two components:

1. Density Score: How often spooky keywords appeared relative to the total number of reviews.
2. Volume Score: The absolute number of spooky mentions, scaled using a 0.75 power to avoid very large casinos dominating on volume alone.

The formula used: Spooky Score = 0.5 × (Mentions / Reviews × 10,000) + 0.5 × Mentions^0.75

This method rewards both frequency (how consistently guests report spooky experiences) and volume (how many reports there are overall). The result is a ranking that balances folklore-backed reputations with what real visitors actually say.

This data was collected in October 2025.
