Drake Used ChatGPT for Gambling Advice, Lost $300K in Minutes

Rap superstar Drake is no stranger to high-stakes gambling. But a recent Instagram video of him using AI for betting advice has raised concerns on his online gaming habits. The rapper revealed that he turned to ChatGPT to make a decision on which six-figure bet he should make on the cryptocurrency gambling platform Stake, where he currently holds a partnership.

In the video, Drake uses ChatGPT’s voice feature to decide on placing a $200,000 bet on the Puffer Stacks slot game or placing a $100,000 bet on the Wanted slot game on Stake. The chatbot suggests the $100,000 wager on Wanted, describing it as a more balanced option “given the volatility.”

Unfortunately, he ended with an unsavory outcome, and the next bet followed suit. The chatbot recommended that he try again with a $200,000 bet on Puffer Stacks, resulting in a total loss of $300,000 from following the AI’s advice.

“ChatGPT, you have buried me today,” Drake says to his AI advisor.

Proxy Betting, or Just a Helping Hand?

In a recent Instagram story, Drake added that his losses are “so fried right now” and that he hopes to post a “big win” soon. His statement highlights the growing risks of relying on AI tools for gambling advice. But this isn’t his first rodeo when it comes to making headlines for massive losses -- weeks earlier, he posted on X about losing $8 million in gambling in a single month.

This latest incident raises a new set of ethical concerns about the use of AI as a source of gambling advice.  While OpenAI prohibits using its’ models for “gambling or lottery advice,” users often find ways to bypass restrictions- blurring the lines between casual suggestions and proxy betting, where a third party places or influences bets for someone else.

The practice is generally discouraged by gambling regulators, but in the online gambling world, enforcement can be easier said than done.

Time will tell if Drake will ever post his “big win,” but the stunt proves to be a cautionary tale for anyone considering the advice of AI for hitting jackpots.
