Century Casinos will keep its Alberta focus on retail, not online, its president told investors.
Century Casinos will not launch an online casino in Alberta, president Peter Hoetzinger told investors.
The decision keeps the operator on the sidelines of Alberta’s regulated online casino market, even as rivals rush in.
Speaking on Century’s Aug. 7 second-quarter earnings call, chairman and co-CEO Erwin Haitzmann was asked about online opportunities in the province and replied, “I wouldn’t see anything.”
“That’s an opportunity for our retail sportsbook, not online,” Hoetzinger added.
The stance comes despite a strong quarter, with Century’s Canadian net operating revenue up 2.2 per cent year-over-year to US$20.4 million, according to the company’s Q2 2026 earnings call.
Adjusted EBITDAR rose 11 per cent to US$6.2 million, with all four Alberta properties contributing higher revenue.
Century Mile posted its highest quarterly earnings since opening, while Century St. Albert set records for coin-in during May and June.
Century Mile’s coin-in grew 11.2 per cent year-over-year, outpacing the wider Edmonton market, while St. Albert added 6.2 per cent.
Management credited its new Celly’s Sports Bar & Lounge concept, which it plans to use to lean into retail sports betting rather than online play.
Asked whether Alberta’s new online market was eating into its floors, Haitzmann said the company had seen no such signs and suggested it may never happen.
He floated the idea that digital and retail gaming could instead deliver “mutual fertilization” for the business.
Century also pointed to a court decision requiring the proposed Camrose casino relocation to restart, delaying a potential new competitor near Century Mile.
Hoetzinger went further, raising the prospect of selling Century’s four Alberta properties, which includes Century Casino Edmonton, either as a bundle or as a pair of casinos and a pair of racinos.
The company is pivoting to become more US-centric and reduce its debt, and is separately weighing options for its Poland operations.
Hoetzinger said Century could disclose progress on a Canadian sale before the end of 2026.
