It’s time to spin your revolver and tighten your buckles because we’re heading West with Popiplay’s Wild Wild Steel slot. The Wild West has produced some brilliant slots over the years, with titles like Dead or Alive and Wanted: Dead or a Wild proving to be enduring favorites with players. Where does Wild Wild Steel fall into the grand canon of Wild West themed slots? Join me in this Wild Wild Steel review as I load up the reels and find out.

The two Western titles I have mentioned in the intro to this Wild Wild Steel review have clearly been influences for Wild Wild Steel, but the slot’s biggest inspiration is arguably Relax Gaming’s iconic Money Train series. The title combines a futuristic, steampunk style with the Old West, serving up a rogues gallery of unique characters and designs.
This combination is also extended to the soundtrack, which mixes a Spaghetti Western-style tune with a more modern beat. Overall, I found the site and sound design of the slot to be one of its best features.
The slot design is great, and while the bonuses are far from original, they are engaging enough and will provide plenty of action.
Wild Wild Steel keeps the action nice and straightforward in the base game. The slot uses 5 reels and 3 rows, with 25 active paylines on each spin. Wins are rewarded when players land three or more matching symbols along a payline, starting on the leftmost reel.
The game design is very user-friendly and intuitive. All of the main controls are located under the reels, with the stake, autospin, and paytable all along there. I also tested the Wild Wild Steel mobile slot and found the design as easy to navigate.
There are three main bonus features available in the Wild Wild Steel slot. Let's take a look at them.
Unfortunately, there is no way of buying your way into the bonus rounds in the Wild Wild Steel online slot.
For this Wild Wild Steel review, I tested the game for real money. I loaded the slot in a trusted online casino, setting the game to autospin for 50 spins at a stake of $1 per spin.
I was surprised to see my winnings get off the mark quickly. I landed two good wins in my first eight spins, bagging a $23 win and a $15.20 win. While the rest of the spins did not turn out to be so fruitful, I still managed to pick up a handful of $0.50 small wins and a $4 win. On my 48th spin, I landed another $6.60 win and opted to double it using the Gamble feature, coming out with a win. I tried this once more with a small win when I continued playing after my auto spins but was unsuccessful.
I continued to play for a while afterward, eventually triggering the respin bonus after around 20 more spins. The round was a moderate success, and I left with a $15.40 win. I finished the game in profit, pocketing around $110 off 70 spins.
Wild Wild Steel by Popiplay is somewhat let down by an underwhelming math model. The game’s maximum win is a disappointing 2,500x the player’s stake, which will not have anyone’s heart racing. The RTP is around average, at 96.00%, and the volatility is medium-high.
There are many things to like about Wild Wild Steel, but unfortunately, its math model leaves a lot to be desired. The slot design is great, and while the bonuses are far from original, they are engaging enough and will provide plenty of action.
However, the area that holds this slot back is a poor maximum win. The lack of originality could have been easily overlooked had the slot served up some good numbers, but with so many high-paying slots available in this genre, a win of 2,500x is not going to cut it.
If you are a fan of the Western genre and are looking for slots with a more significant winning potential, I would recommend NetEnt’s classic Dead or Alive II and Hacksaw Gaming’s Wanted: Dead or a Wild. You should also check out Relax Gaming’s Money Train for more steampunk and Wild West madness.
