The Western Genre is one of our all-time favorites, and it has produced some truly classic slots over the years. Titles like NetEnt’s Dead or Alive 2, Hacksaw Gaming’s Wanted Dead or a Wild, and Relax Gaming’s Money Train 3 are all excellent examples of what you can do in the Wild West. Pragmatic Play has loaded up its revolver and decided to return to the genre with The Wild Gang online slot. The title takes us deep into the heart of a gritty western town, serving up a maximum win of 10,00x your stake. In this The Wild Gang slot review, we are going to find out what it does to stand out from other titles in the Western genre.

From a design perspective, The Wild Gang sticks very closely to the established blueprint of a Western slot. The reels are positioned on the outskirts of a dusty old town, with wooden frames bordering it and a selection of Cowboy weapons and clothing making up the reels. The Western genre lends itself to effortlessly cool designs, and while The Wild Gang does very little to distinguish itself from other titles, it still looks stylish. The shift to some sort of desert for the free spins round is also great, with the sunkissed background doing an excellent job of creating an atmosphere.
We find that Pragmatic Play always does a great job of adapting real money slots for mobile use, and The Wild Gang was no different. The slot looked excellent when we took it for a spin on an iPad, and we also ran it on an Android mobile to ensure it works well on different devices and operating systems.
The Wild Gang slot does more to stand out with its gameplay than it does its design. The slot is played across six reels, with a 3-4-4-4-4-3 row set-up. This allows the game to offer 2,304 ways to win on every base game spin. Wins are rewarded when there are matching symbols anywhere on adjacent reels, starting on the leftmost reel.
The stake is adjusted using the +/- on either side of the spin button. The minimum stake is $0.20 and the maximum is $240. We found this to be an excellent betting range and much higher than what we have come to expect from Pragmatic Play slots. The autoplay feature is located directly under the spin button.
Much of the action in The Wild Gang, unsurprisingly, is based around Wild symbols. There are four different Wilds in the game, each represented by a different member of a Cowboy gang. Depending on how many Wilds land, they will also act as Scatters, with three or more of them becoming Scatters and triggering bonuses.
There are also Mystery Symbols that can land on any spin. Multiple instances of these symbols will become matching.
Landing three or four Scatters will launch the Wanted Free Spins or the Dead or Alive Free Spins, respectively. In both games, players get eight spins, but the Dead or Alive round is played on an enhanced 6x4 game grid with 4,096 ways to win active throughout.
During the round, Wilds will display a Multiplier. In the Wanted Free Spins, this will reach 3x, and in the Dead or Alive, it will hit 4x. Wilds are collected and will persist until the end of the Free Spins.
Depending on your location, the option to buy your way into the bonus rounds is available. The Wanted Spins will cost 80x your stake, and the Dead or Alive Spins will cost 200x.
The Wild Gang slot sticks closely to a math model that Pragmatic Play has used on many occasions. The slot offers a maximum win of 10,000x your stake, which will be enough to please most players. The slot has an RTP of 96.2%, but there are multiple versions available, so check the paytable before you hit the spin button. Pragmatic Play has given the game a 5/5 for volatility, which aligned with our experiences of playing The Wild Gang.
We found The Wild Gang to be a solid entry into the Western genre; while it might not have the huge winning capabilities of titles like Tombstone R.I.P and Money Train, it still has some really fun gameplay sequences, and the Wild-centred action ensures the game keeps you engaged throughout. Regular players of Pragmatic Play slots will note the similar math model and a maximum win of 10,000x your stake. This has been a winning formula for the developer and continues to be one here. Overall, this is a fun Western slot we are happy to recommend to play at online casinos.
