West Virginia is one of the most liberal US states when it comes to gambling law. There are five full service land-based casinos, operated by some well-known US casino companies. The state also has fully legal online casinos, poker and sports betting.
Additionally, there are also hundreds of small video gaming suppliers across the state in bars and cafes. These are frequently identified as ‘hot spots’ on their signage.
So, let’s take a look at where you can gamble in the Mountain State.

Monongahela National Forest is also a great spot for hiking and camping or if you prefer winter sports then Snowshoe Mountain Resort is a must for skiing and snowboarding.
- Historic Attractions – If you love visiting sites from the past then West Virginia has lots of fun landmarks. The Greenbrier Resort, for example, has a Cold War bunker tour, the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine lets you tour a real underground coal mine. Or if you want something altogether more spooky then you can take a ghost tour through the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston.
- Fun Days Out – West Virginia has its own waterfall trail, where you can self-guide to 43 waterfalls across the state, or if you prefer something a little more high-adventure then you can go off-roading or experience stock car racing. Horseback riding venues are available in several places including Camp Creek State Park and Forest or Canaan Valley.
- Scenic Drives/Railroads – The Highland Scenic Highway offers spectacular views and there’s also a series of Mountain Rides routes that you can take including Seneca Skyway, Cranberry Corridor or Birdeye Bend. If you’d rather not drive, then take a ride on an old stream locomotive through the mountains on the Cass Scenic Railroad.
