WinStar World Casino Review for April 2026

There is no way to ease into a description of WinStar World Casino and Resort. It is simply the largest casino on the planet, and that claim is not in any dispute.

The Chickasaw Nation's flagship property sits just north of the Oklahoma-Texas state line on Interstate 35 in Thackerville, a town of a few hundred people that exists almost entirely because WinStar is there. The casino floor alone spans roughly 370,000 square feet across nine city-themed gaming plazas, each one large enough to be a standalone casino in most states.

There are over 10,000 electronic games, nearly 100 table games, a 55-table poker room, a dedicated bingo hall, and off-track horse race betting. In fact, walking from one end of the casino to the other covers approximately a mile.

The resort itself boats three hotel towers totaling close to 1,400 rooms, two 18-hole championship golf courses, a five-acre outdoor pool complex, a two-story spa, a 65,000 square foot convention center, and Lucas Oil Live - a 6,500-seat indoor concert venue that has hosted everything from Stevie Nicks to Maroon 5 to ZZ Top.

Getting There

WinStar World is located on I-35 and right at the Oklahoma-Texas border, which is the defining fact of the property's geography. From Dallas-Fort Worth it is around 75 miles north and roughly an hour's drive, which is why WinStar draws the majority of its estimated six million annual visitors from the North Texas region where casino gaming is banned by state law.

From Oklahoma City it is 120 miles south, about an hour and forty-five minutes. From Austin the drive is around three hours north. There are no major airports near Thackerville itself, though. DFW International Airport is the closest practical option at roughly 90 miles.

Parking is free and extensive across the property with valet parking also available. A shuttle service runs between designated casino entrances, which is a practical necessity given the distance between the hotel towers, the gaming plazas, and the entertainment venues. That should help you get some idea of the sheer scale of the place.

If you are visiting for a day trip rather than a hotel stay, wear comfortable shoes. In fact, just wear comfortable shoes anyway. Even if you’re not going to casinos. Don’t scrimp, people. I did for years and I regret it immensely. Thank me later.

Anyway, where was I?

Casino Review

The casino is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The minimum age to gamble is 18, which is lower than the 21 standard at most tribal casinos in the country.

The nine gaming plazas each carry an international city theme: London, Paris, Rome, Vienna, Madrid, New York, Cairo, Beijing, and Rio. The themes vary from superficial signage in some areas to genuinely immersive décor in others, and the organisation into distinct plazas gives the vast floor some navigational logic that helps prevent the space from feeling completely overwhelming.

Each plaza has its own character as well as its own theming and decor. The London Gaming Plaza, for example, offers table games, two exclusive high-stakes rooms, and the Aristocrat Lightning Link Lounge. Cairo is heavily slots-focused and houses the Palladium Sports Lounge. Rio is the designated non-smoking gaming area, clearly marked, where smoking and vaping are prohibited.

Be aware that the rest of the casino floor permits smoking, though. However, the hotel towers and convention center are entirely non-smoking. For visitors who prefer a smoke-free gaming experience on the main floor, the Rio Plaza is the place to be.

Nearly 100 live table games are available 24 hours a day, and WinStar's Oklahoma tribal compact allows it to offer the full range of conventional casino table games without the California-style substitutions.

That means craps with real dice, roulette with a ball and wheel, as well as:

It’s all to a very nice standard, and that may be driven by the fact it has to try to compete with Beau Rivage next door. The felt is in good condition, as are the chairs, and the waitress service at the tables is definitely on point.

Slots

Over 10,000 electronic games, the vast majority of them being slots, are spread across the nine plazas. That represents the densest collection of gaming machines at any single property in the world.

The sheer variety of titles is genuinely unmatched, and for slot players who like to range across different games and denominations without running out of options, WinStar is difficult to better. I won’t try to list them all, but suffice to say that if you want to play it, WinStar World almost certainly has it.

Rewards Club

Club Passport is WinStar's free loyalty program, accessed via the My WinStar app and a physical card. Points are earned on all tracked electronic game and table game play, converting into Passport Rewards redeemable for dining, hotel stays, retail, entertainment tickets, and green fees at the WinStar Golf Club.

The tiered card programme escalates benefits through the levels, adding exclusive event invitations, hotel discounts, and more the higher you progress.

New members can earn up to $100 in reward play on their first day of membership, which is a reason to join whether you intend to return or not.

There are some things to be aware of though too. Passport Rewards cannot be used for gratuity, alcohol, or tobacco purchases. Bingo, keno, poker, and off-track betting play does not count toward tier points, which is worth knowing for visitors who plan to spend significant time at those specific games.

Did You Know?

Oklahoma has more tribal casinos than any other state in the country, but one of its biggest customers is a state that has almost none of its own. Texas bans nearly all forms of casino gambling, yet the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex sits just an hour's drive from the Oklahoma state line. Tribal operators recognised the opportunity early, and today a string of major casinos lines Oklahoma's southern border specifically to capture that Texas traffic. WinStar World Casino in Thackerville — the largest casino floor in the United States — sits at the very first exit north of the Red River. Oklahoma's tribal gaming industry generates over $5 billion a year, and a significant share of that comes from Texans crossing the state line to play.

Hotel Review

WinStar has four accommodation options across the property. The main Casino Tower has 495 rooms and suites and is the closest hotel to the gaming floor. Pool Tower North and Pool Tower South each have around 500 rooms and are positioned adjacent to the Cascades pool complex. The Inn at WinStar has 101 rooms in a more modest configuration and is accessible from the casino and RV park by shuttle.

Rooms

All towers offer standard king and double queen configurations alongside suite options. The Pool Tower rooms are particularly well-positioned, with pool-view suites offering panoramic views of the Cascades complex and direct access to both golf courses and the spa. All rooms come with premium bedding, walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads, 24-hour room service, in-room breakfast availability, and even a Bedré Fine Chocolate on the pillow at turndown. Lovely touch. I love it when hotels do that. Bedré is the Chickasaw Nation's own chocolate brand, by the way, and a small but genuine touch of tribal identity in an otherwise mainstream hotel environment.

The hotel towers connect to the casino floor, though the distances involved mean that for guests in the Pool Towers, reaching the far end of the gaming plazas is a meaningful walk even from the lobby.

Where to Eat

WinStar has over 20 dining options across the property, covering a wide range of styles and price points. The quality varies significantly between the fine dining and casual ends of the spectrum. It’s difficult to cover them all here, but here is a quick run down as well as some highlights.

RestaurantTypeGeneral Price
Kirby's Prime SteakhouseFine dining, prime cuts, fresh seafood, Japanese A5 Wagyu, extensive wine list$$$$
Mickey Mantle'sUpscale casual, steaks, seafood, craft cocktails, romantic setting$$$
Dallas Cowboys Bar and GrillFull-service sports bar, American classics, extensive TV coverage$$

Le Paris Bakery and CaféGourmet coffee, pastries, quick bites$
Red River GrillClassic American comfort food, casino floor casual$
Taco CasaQuick service Mexican$
Various cafés and quick service outletsOn the gaming floor throughout the plazas$

Kirby's Prime Steakhouse is the clear fine dining anchor and appears to be constantly busy. I didn’t try it, but constant footfall has to be a strong endorsement. The reason I didn’t try it, though, was because it was pricey, so bear that in mind.

Mickey Mantle's occupies the upscale casual tier with a strong wine list and the kind of menu and atmosphere that works well for celebration dining without the full formality of Kirby's.

Toby Keith's is the social flagship for casual dining, with live music, big screens, and the kind of generous portions and comfort food that makes it a real crowd pleaser.

The Dallas Cowboys Bar and Grill, born from WinStar's official casino partnership with the Cowboys, is one for the sports fans, and the Gran Via Buffet at 500 seats handles the needs of larger groups and guests who want variety across a single sitting. It looks pretty standard casino buffet fare though.

Pool and Spa

The Cascades is a five-acre, three-tier outdoor luxury pool complex and one of the most impressive pool setups at any casino resort in the country. The ground level has a shallow wading pool with in-water loungers. The mid-level offers multiple pool basins including a marquise-shaped pool with in-pool bar stools. The upper tier provides elevated views with its own pool as well.

Three outdoor bars, daybeds, and private cabanas complete the setup. The Cascades is seasonal, though. The separate Terrace Pool, exclusively for hotel guests, offers a more private experience with six private cabanas, a poolside bar, and a fire pit.

The WinStar Spa is a two-storey operation in the dedicated Spa Tower, covering massages, facials, body treatments, hydrotherapy, manicures, and pedicures. The Spa Tower location means that guests staying in that section of the hotel are steps from both the spa and Lucas Oil Live, which makes it the most strategically positioned place to stay for anyone coming primarily for an evening show.

A 24-hour fitness centre is available to hotel guests, and the WinStar Golf Academy is available for lessons year-round.

Entertainment

Lucas Oil Live is WinStar's signature entertainment venue and one of the most significant concert facilities in the south-central United States. The 6,500-seat indoor arena has a club-level seating section with a private lounge, acoustics panels throughout the venue walls for superior sound quality wherever you sit, and a stage built to handle full arena-level productions.

Acts who have performed include Stevie Nicks, Maroon 5, KISS, ZZ Top, Kid Rock, Weezer, Jay Leno, and Davy Jones, who gave his final concert here in February 2012. Concerts run most weekends throughout the year.

The Palladium Sports Lounge in the Cairo Plaza handles live sports viewing and hosts live music on weekends. It’s a welcome attraction in a casino that cannot have a sportsbook due to state regulations.

A seasonal outdoor concert arena on the east side of the property has also been used for summer country music events and professional bull riding. It has a capacity of around 7,700.

Golf

Golf deserves its own mention here. The WinStar Golf Club offers two 18-hole championship courses, the Scissortail and the Redbud, both designed by D.A. Weibring and expanded over time to become genuinely respected layouts. At least, that is what I am told. I am many things but golf enthusiast is not one of them.

What I do know is that green fees can be discounted through higher Club Passport tier membership and the WinStar Golf Academy offers private and group instruction. For golfers making a casino weekend trip, the combination of two championship courses and a serious golf academy is as strong an offering as you'll find at any casino resort anywhere in the country.

Verdict

WinStar World Casino and Resort is the most logistically challenging property to review because its scale is almost impossible to hold in a single thought. The largest casino in the world, a mile from end to end, 10,000-plus games, nearly 100 table games with real dice craps and roulette, a poker room bigger than most standalone card rooms, a 6,500-seat concert venue, two championship golf courses, a 5-acre pool complex, a luxury spa, and 1,400 hotel rooms across four accommodation options. It is an extraordinary accumulation of investment and ambition.

What WinStar is not is particularly refined. The resort's scale comes with real practical friction. The walk between the hotel towers and the far gaming plazas is genuinely tiring and the property's own shuttle service exists because the distances are otherwise impractical for many guests.

The casino floor allows smoking throughout most plazas, which will be a meaningful factor for some visitors. For me, I felt like if there are nine zones, how come smokers get eight and non-smokers are expected to confine themselves to just one. It feels like there would be room enough for a slightly fairer split.

The dining offerings, while extensive, are inconsistent in quality across its many outlets, and the property's location in Thackerville means there is nothing useful within reach outside the resort itself. You are entirely dependent on what WinStar provides for the duration of your stay.

For the vast majority of its six million annual visitors, most of whom drive up from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex specifically because Texas bans casinos, none of that is a dealbreaker. For a visitor making a deliberate trip to the world's largest casino, the scale itself is the attraction. There is nothing else like it, and experiencing it once is worth doing for that reason alone.
