The state of Oklahoma boasts one of the most thriving casino industries outside of Nevada. With over 100 casinos across the state, all tribal-owned, it has some highly impressive resorts including WinStar World Casino, the largest casino in North America.

Outside of tribal casinos, no commercial casinos operate, however there are a few horse racing tracks that are licensed to provide gaming machines.

Oklahoma Land-Based Casino Operators

A total of 33 tribes run gaming facilities in Oklahoma with some tribes operating more than 20 casinos. Here’s a rundown of the some of the biggest casino operators in Oklahoma.

  • Chickasaw Nation – Operate 23 casinos in Oklahoma including flagship property WinStar World Casino and Riverwind Casino
  • Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma– Operate 22 Oklahoma casinos including Choctaw Casino Resort Durant and Choctaw Landing Resort & Casino
  • Muscogee (Creek) Nation – Operate 10 casinos including River Spirit Casino
  • Cherokee Nation – Operate 12 Oklahoma casinos including Hard Rock Casino Tulsa

Oklahoma Casino Resorts

Bearing in mind the largest casino floor on the Las Vegas Strip is around 156,000 square feet (at MGM Grand) you can see just how much these Oklahoma casinos match up when we delve a little deeper:

  • WinStar World Casino – The largest casino in North America, and the third biggest in the world, WinStar has a casino floor spanning 519,000 square feet. It includes 7,000 slots, over 100 live table games, a 46 table poker room and an 800 seat bingo hall. The hotel has 1,700 rooms, a 5 acre luxury pool complex, a day spa, boutique shopping, two 18-hole golf courses, 17 restaurants and a 6,500 seat event venue.
  • Choctaw Casino Resort Durant – With a gaming floor of 218,000 square feet, this casino offers 7,400 slots, 100 live table games, and a 30 table poker room. The hotel has 1,700 rooms, two pools, a day spa, shopping, arcade, bowling alley, a movie theater, 12 eateries plus a food court and nine bars plus live entertainment.
  • River Spirit Casino – Located in Tulsa, this resort has a 483 room hotel, a pool with a swim up bar, spa and salon, a 2,500 seat event venue, a TopGolf Swing Suite and six restaurants and bars. The 200,000 square foot casino has 3,100 slots, 23 live table games and a 15 table poker room.

More Than Gambling

There’s plenty of fun to be had in Oklahoma outside of the casinos, so if you can drag yourself away from the incredible gaming floors, you might want to try some of these:

  • Outdoor Adventures – If you love the outdoors, then head to one of the scenic spots in the Sooner state such as Turner Falls Park which has Oklahoma’s tallest waterfall with swimming holes and hiking trails. There’s also great hiking opportunities at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge where you can see bison and longhorns too. Alternatively, take a drive through the Ouachita Mountains on the Talimena Scenic Drive.
  • Oklahoma City – There’s so much to see and do in Oklahoma City including visiting the National Cowboy & Western Heritage, going to Scissortail Park for the gardens and lake or hanging out in trendy Bricktown with all the cool restaurants and bars
  • Route 66 Stops – If you love all of the Route 66 nostalgia and roadside Americana then Oklahoma has plenty. The famous Blue Whale of Catoosa is here which is a classic Route 66 icon.  Other points of interest include the Arcadia Round Barn and Pops 66 Soda Ranch with its towering soda bottle and 700+ kinds of soda inside.
  • Fun Days Out – If you’re looking for a great day out for all the family there’s plenty to choose from such as Claremont Lake Park Splash Pad, Snider Family Exotics, Blue Zoo Aquarium, Shawnee Splash Water Park and Nomad's Animal Encounter.

Important Considerations

The legal age for gambling in Oklahoma tribal casinos is 18 years and over. However, some casinos might have restricted areas for 21 years and over such as places where alcohol is sold or poker rooms. It is always advisable to call ahead to check and take along photographic ID.
