In 1987, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma purchased a cattle pasture near the intersection of Highway 69 and 75 in Durant from two sisters who were struggling to sell it. On that land, they opened the Choctaw Bingo Palace, a 28,000-square-foot facility that drew players from across Oklahoma and from across the Red River in Texas, where gambling remains illegal. Business was strong enough that the Bingo Palace became the first Indian bingo hall in the United States to award a million-dollar winner.
That is where one of the largest casino resorts in the world began.
Today the property that grew from that cattle pasture spans 50 acres, encompasses three casino floors covering over 218,000 square feet of gaming space, holds 7,400 slot machines and over 100 table games, runs 20 restaurants and 21 bars and lounges, operates 1,700 hotel rooms across three towers, stages entertainment in a 3,000-seat Grand Theater and at Gilley's honky-tonk, and offers The District, an entertainment complex with 20 bowling lanes, a 60-plus-game arcade, and a six-screen movie theater. The $600 million Sky Tower expansion that opened in August 2021 alone added 1,000 hotel rooms and 3,300 slot machines to what was already Oklahoma's flagship casino destination.
The majority of Choctaw Durant's visitors come from Texas, a market the resort has served consistently since before there was a casino here at all. The marketing pitch is straightforward: one hour north of Dallas.
Choctaw Casino and Resort Durant sits at 4216 South Highway 69/75 in Durant, Oklahoma, roughly 95 miles north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex along US-69/75. The drive from the DFW area is typically around 90 minutes. From Oklahoma City, it's approximately two hours southeast via I-35 and US-70. Durant is served by Ardmore Municipal Airport, 45 miles to the northwest, with DFW International Airport the practical commercial option for most out-of-state visitors.
Two dedicated parking garages serve the property, one on the northeast side for the Grand Casino and Grand Theater, and one on the Sky Tower side for the Sky Casino and The District. A complimentary shuttle runs throughout the property and to the RV Park. Complimentary valet is available at the Spa Tower and Sky Tower entrances for hotel guests.
Three interconnected casino floors, the Grand Casino, the Link Casino, and the Sky Casino, together cover over 218,000 square feet of gaming space running around the clock.
Something significant happened here in early 2026 that's worth leading with: Choctaw Durant now holds the title of the largest non-smoking casino floor in the United States. The Grand Casino completed a six-phase renovation in spring 2026, adding new carpet, lighting, and walkways, and converting the entire floor to non-smoking. Combined with the Sky Casino, which was already smoke-free, the property now offers 5,400 slot machines and 82 table games in a completely non-smoking environment. If you've ever walked off a casino floor feeling like you needed to fumigate your clothes, this is the answer to that. Smoking is still available in the Link Casino, which runs 1,700 slots, 22 table games, and a high-limit area, as well as on the outdoor veranda near the Grand Theater. But the vast majority of the gaming floor is now clean air.
The resort also made history in March 2025 when Choctaw became the first brick-and-mortar casino in the United States to accept cryptocurrency directly in exchange for chips, converting Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, and USDC into casino chips without ATMs or third-party systems. It is the kind of first that fits a property with a record of firsts going all the way back to that original million-dollar bingo win.
Over 100 live table games run across the three casino floors, covering Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Baccarat, Pai Gow Poker, Three Card Poker, and Ultimate Texas Hold'em. The non-smoking Grand Casino and Sky Casino together account for 82 of those tables, meaning most guests who want live table action can find it without exposure to smoke.
A dedicated poker room runs 30 tables with daily tournaments and cash games. A racebook in The League covers major tracks across the United States for guests who want pari-mutuel wagering alongside casino gaming. A High Limits salon provides separated premium gaming space.
7,400 slot machines across three casino floors make this one of the largest slot operations in the country by raw machine count. Denominations range from pennies to high-limit. With the Grand Casino renovation complete, the combined non-smoking slot count sits at 5,400 machines across the Grand and Sky Casinos, the largest smoke-free slot floor in the country and a genuine differentiator for players who want the full range of modern titles without tobacco exposure. The Link Casino's 1,700 machines remain the smoking option for guests who prefer that environment.
Choctaw Rewards is the property-wide loyalty program, earning points on all gaming, hotel, dining, and entertainment spend across all Choctaw Nation properties. Points accumulate toward free play, hotel stays, dining credits, and exclusive event access. The program operates across multiple tiers with escalating benefits. Sign-up at any rewards desk on property requires a valid photo ID.
Did You Know?
Three hotel towers provide 1,700 rooms and suites across distinct properties, each with its own pool access, dining connections, and atmosphere.
The Sky Tower is the newest and most premium option, a 21-story luxury tower that opened as part of the $600 million 2021 expansion. Its rooms are modern, well-appointed, and connected to Aqua, the adults-only pool complex on three acres with two pools, water slides, a swim-up bar, 750 chaise loungers, 50 cabanas, two food venues, and three bars. Live DJs run poolside on Saturdays. I spent an afternoon at Aqua on my last visit and genuinely lost track of time, which is the point.
The Grand Tower completed a full renovation in September 2023, its first since opening in 2008, bringing all 329 non-smoking rooms and 18 suites up to the same aesthetic standard as the newer Sky Tower. The Oasis pool area serves Grand Tower guests with its own water slides, Jacuzzis, cabanas, and seasonal dive-in movie screenings on an inflatable screen.
The Spa Tower adds further rooms and suites and provides the most direct access to the spa facilities. All three towers are connected by internal pathways and covered by the complimentary property shuttle.
A collection of over 6,000 pieces of art is displayed throughout the Sky Tower expansion, offering a visual journey through Choctaw Nation history and culture that distinguishes the property from resort destinations that treat their walls as neutral space.
I ate well here, multiple times, across multiple venues. Twenty restaurants and 21 bars and lounges earned Choctaw Durant 15 first-place awards in Casino Player Magazine's 2025 Best of Dining and Nightlife Awards, including Best Overall Dining in Oklahoma.

Gilley's is the property's most distinctive dining and entertainment venue, a genuine honky-tonk operating inside one of the largest casino resorts in America, with a mechanical bull, live country music, and the kind of atmosphere that makes it worth visiting regardless of whether you've touched a slot machine. It opened as an extension of the original Gilley's brand made famous by the 1980 film Urban Cowboy. I've been to a lot of casino entertainment venues. This one has actual personality.
Guy Fieri's American Kitchen and Bar, positioned at the south end of the casino with outdoor patio views of The Oasis pool, adds a celebrity chef anchor in a 24-hour format that suits the all-hours energy of a property drawing this many visitors. It also sits conveniently adjacent to the Link Casino, the smoking gaming floor, which makes it a natural gathering point for guests moving between the different atmospheres of the property.
Two distinct pool complexes serve different towers and atmospheres. Aqua at the Sky Tower is the premier option: three acres, two pools, including a family-friendly option with water slides and an adults-only pool, 750 chaise loungers, 50 cabanas, three bars, and two food venues, with live DJs on Saturdays. Oasis at the Grand Tower runs on a similar model with its own pools, slides, Jacuzzis, cabanas, and the dive-in movie screen that runs through summer months.
The Spa at Choctaw consistently draws praise from guests as the best single feature of the resort, which is a remarkable thing to say about a property with 7,400 slot machines and two pool complexes. Treatment options cover massage, facials, manicures, pedicures, and body treatments alongside steam rooms, saunas, and a fitness center. Full-day spa facility access is included when booking any treatment, which makes the value proposition considerably stronger than at properties that charge separately for access and treatment.
The Grand Theatre seats 3,000 and operates under a Live Nation partnership signed in October 2023, which has brought consistently strong touring talent to a market that would otherwise have limited access to headline acts. Past performers include Aerosmith, Kid Rock, Chris Stapleton, and Carrie Underwood. Current and upcoming bookings include Aaron Lewis, Kameron Marlowe, and Zach Top. The theatre has hosted more than 250 shows since opening in 2015, and the Grand Casino renovation that was completed in spring 2026 specifically improved the non-smoking environment around the conference rooms and theatre entrance, making the concert experience cleaner for the 3,000 people who file through that part of the building on show nights.
Gilley's provides the secondary entertainment anchor with live country music running throughout the week at a smaller, more informal scale. The District's six-screen movie theatre, 20-lane bowling facility, and arcade give the property a family entertainment dimension that most casino resorts don't attempt to build at this scale.
Choctaw Casino and Resort Durant is, by any honest accounting, one of the most comprehensively developed casino resort destinations in the United States. The statistics are almost absurd for a property in a small city in southeastern Oklahoma: 7,400 slot machines, 1,700 hotel rooms, 20 restaurants, a 3,000-seat theatre with a Live Nation partnership, three acres of pools, and now the largest non-smoking casino floor in the country at 5,400 machines and 82 tables across the Grand and Sky Casinos.
That last point matters more than it might sound. The decision to go non-smoking was data-driven, the resort's marketing director said, because more guests are looking for that environment for the comfort of being in those spaces for extended periods. Anyone who has spent a long session on a traditional casino floor understands exactly what that means.
What gives the property character beyond the numbers is the Choctaw Nation's evident investment in quality throughout, from the 6,000-piece art collection in the Sky Tower to the spa that guests consistently identify as the resort's best feature, to Gilley's operating with genuine personality inside what could easily have been a generic entertainment box.
The Texas market is the engine. One hour north of Dallas is a simple value proposition, and Choctaw Durant has been executing against it since 1987. For anyone making that drive from the DFW area, or from anywhere within reasonable range, the scale and quality of what awaits is consistently surprising.
