The Wild Toro slot series has been a huge hit for ELK Studios. The series’s Toro and Matador characters have become mascots for the developer, and it has decided to bring them back once again with Toro Shōgun. Like any good series that has experienced much success, Wild Toro has now gone on the road, and it finds itself in Japan, causing a considerable amount of havoc to a peaceful monastery. In this Toro Shōgun review, we will find out just how much damage it causes and whether or not you should consider taking it for a spin.

ELK Studios know how to deliver a creatively designed slot game, and Toro Shōgun is a strong example. It takes the characters from the Wild Toro game and places them in the heart of the Japanese countryside. A wise sensei and several other new additions join them on the grid, with a temple in the background and the sun setting over the mountains. It’s a really effective design that stays true to the theme of the original Wild Toro slots while offering something new.
The quirky design of the Toro Shōgun slot lends itself perfectly to mobile gameplay. The Toro Shōgun mobile game looks fantastic, and there are no major differences between the desktop and mobile versions. You can play Toro Shōgun on mobile at all top online casinos that provide mobile options.
There is plenty going on with the base game for Toro Shōgun. The slot uses a 5x4 set-up, with 178 ways to win at the start. Winning combinations are formed for matching symbols landing anywhere on adjacent symbols from left to right. This can change if you trigger the pay both ways feature, with wins paying right to left as well.
You'll trigger a cascading sequence each time you land a win, replacing winning symbols with new ones falling from above. An additional row appears on the reels whenever a win is formed. This, along with a combination of modifiers, means there can be up to 1,378 ways to win and up to ten rows on the grid.
You can adjust the stake by clicking the stack of coins icon in the bottom corner. The minimum wager in the game is $0.20, with the maximum reaching $100. You can activate the Autospin function by holding down the Spin button.
Many bonus features in Toro Shōgun are focused on wild symbols. One of the first things you will notice is that a wild symbol is formed on the reels whenever you land a win in the game. Things get a lot more creative than this, though.
Toro makes an appearance on the grid as a Walking Wild. When he lands on the reels, he triggers a respin and moves one row to the left. This continues until he reaches the leftmost reel on the grid.
Another respin is triggered when you land two or more Matador symbols. For this, the Matador symbols lock into position on the grid, and a respin is triggered.
If you land a Toro and Matador symbol at the same time, you will activate the Toro Goes Wild feature. At that point, Toro moves around the grid, knocking Matador symbols off and leaving Wild symbols instead.
The game can extend to up to ten positions high, and if this happens, the Shōgun Mode bonus is triggered. This activates both ways of paying and removes all low-paying symbols from the reels.
There is also a Toro Shōgun free spins round that players can enjoy. This round is triggered by landing three bonus symbols. Players are initially rewarded with seven free bonus spins, and the round starts with a 1x multiplier. Whenever a bonus symbol lands, the multiplier increases by one. If you land three more bonus symbols in one round, all ten rows will become active.
Players can also buy their way into the bonus rounds with different active features using the X-iter feature. The highest you can spend in this is 500x your stake.
Toro Shōgun serves up some big wins, though the RTP is a little disappointing. The maximum win in the game is 25,000x your stake, with the game considered medium-high on the volatility scale. The RTP is 94%, which is lower than the industry average.
The Toro Shōgun slot is an enjoyable outing for one of ELK Studio’s most iconic slot series. It feels like a fun continuation of the series and a refreshing look at the characters we know so well. The wild features boost the gameplay, and the cascading sequences, combined with expanding reels, and additional Wild symbols, keep every spin interesting. A maximum win of 25,000x will undoubtedly attract some attention as well. We are more than happy to recommend claiming a casino free spins deal and taking Toro Shōgun for a spin.
