I will say this about Hacksaw Gaming: just when you think you get what they are all about, they release a slot game called Beam Boys, and all preconceived notions get thrown out the window. When I loaded this game, the initial reaction was “oh”, which on a scale of 1 to 10 is about an 8.
In this review, I set out to see if the game is as impressive as it looks. I discuss with you, the dear reader, what the performance of gameplay and programming is like. I also highlight the in-game bonus features and what potential payouts can be made from this game.
As with all reviews on the Casinos.com platform, you can access the official slot to test yourself. If you like the game Hacksaw Gaming has created, then Casinos.com can guide you to the best casinos online, offering this and many other games as real money slots.

How to describe the Beam Boys slot machine? Well, the sound is an eerie distortion of god-knows-what. It gives a feel of something gone wrong, which works perfectly with the design of the game, which can only be described as dystopian. What is the theme? I haven’t a clue, but there is a mechanical cat with no eyes that sits next to the reels, which looks like it's riddled with tuberculosis if that’s your thing.
The slot layout comes on a 4 x 6 grid, with the reels surrounded by electrical barbed wire. The colors used are blue and black throughout the game. To the left of the reels, there is a volatility switch. This defaults to a normal setting. When pressed, it changes to an extreme setting, and all blue colors turn to orange.
I have not played a game that looks this whacky for a long time. I love games that tear up the rule books and go all crazy with it. I have to say, though, that this one took me by surprise, mainly because Hacksaw Gaming is becoming bigger and more established across casinos online.
When you load Beam Boys, the cost of play will be set to $2.00 per spin. This can be adjusted to values that can suit your budget if you wish. Beam Boys can be played at a cost that ranges from $0.10 min to $100 max.
Winning is done by ways to win and not by paylines. Ways to Win is a feature that allows you to hit wins by just having the same symbols across adjacent reels. With paylines, symbols must land in a certain pattern to count. The total number of ways to win comes in at 4,096. You need to land 3 to 6 of the same symbol to formulate a win.
When you are ready to play, hit the spin button, and the symbols will drop off the grid, with new ones replacing them. Oh, did I mention the disease-riddled cat fires lasers out of its empty ocular cavities? Well, now you know.
Yeah, this game is beyond normal, and I’m down with that. It’s nice to see a game challenge normal convention. Hacksaw Gaming does this from time to time. Also reminds me of casino games made by Mr Slotty.
So, what are the lasers for? Well, when you land a Wild Laser Cat symbol on any of the reels 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, the demonic cat will fire a laser across the same row so that all those not Wild are turned Wild. Thus increasing the chances of producing wins.
The other symbols featured in this game include a dead rat, dead bird, dead fish, dead rabbit, and snake. Lower-valued symbols in the game include 10, J, Q, K, and A. The big prize symbol is that of the cat Wilds.
An important feature of the game is the volatility switch. You have two settings: normal and extreme. The volatility of a game can determine its performance. ‘Normal’ isn’t a standardized setting for a slot’s volatility, so it means that it is set to medium. Extreme does exist, but it very rarely appears in games. With games that come with medium volatility, the performance is balanced, and win and loss frequencies are about the same. With extreme, it is notoriously difficult to win, and play becomes costly, though returns are higher in value when they do land.
Beam Boys comes with a Free Spin bonus round. The bonus symbols are an FS in blue and orange.
During the bonus round, additional free spins can be won by landing 2 or 3 FS symbols. With 2, you get 3 more spins, and with 3 FS symbols, you get 4 more free spins.
Now, there is a Bonus Buy feature that allows you to just play the bonus rounds at a cost without having to go through via the base game. There are 4 bonus options:
Bonushunt Featurespins: This allows you to play the base game with a higher chance of triggering the bonus round.
Wide Spectrum Featurespins: You are guaranteed at least 1 wild laser cat symbol on reels 2 to 6.
Narrow Spectrum Featurespins: You are guaranteed at least 1 wild laser cat symbol on reels 4 to 6.
Photonic Fur Bonus: Play the free spins with either 10, 20, or 40 spins to help you.

There really isn’t too much to expect of this game. Despite the oddity of its design, the basics of a slot are still there to be played and seen. It is a very simple game with nothing overly dynamic about its gameplay.
I only played 50 spins at $2 per spin via the autoplay option. I left the volatility on normal because I believe this setting (medium) is the best for players. The animation is crazy, and I have to say, while there is uniqueness in the design, I got bored very quickly. At the end of my spins, I was only fractionally down from what I started with.
The RTP rating varies in this game relative to the volatility setting. In the game’s normal volatility mode, the RTP score is 96.35%. In the extreme volatility mode, this drops to 96.26%. The RTP in either case is based upon playing the game 10 BILLION times.
The maximum possible win is 12,500 x your wager. So, should you play at $100 per spin, you could potentially land a payout of $1,250,000.
All I can say is that Beam Boys is an experience. While it is not a groundbreaking game, I think players will find it interesting, though not necessarily rewarding. Bravo, however, to Hacksaw Gaming for continuing to push the boat out on being different. Beam Boys is like wiring road kill to a 2000-volt battery and seeing what happens. Frankly, I think the game could have gone harder and been weirder. If you like odd games, like Beam Boys, then definitely check out these alternative slot machines: Nitropolis 4 by ELK Studios, Chaos Crew by Hacksaw Gaming, and lastly, Punk Toilet by Nolimit City. That game will raise your eyebrows.
