"It’s Tuesday, April 29. This is your Casinos.com news roundup.

"Kind-hearted family and friends of Caleb Thomas from Southampton have raised more than £2,000 for the Ocean Heart ward at the hospital that treated Caleb for a serious heart condition.

"A fun bingo event was held to thank hospital staff and staff at the Ronald McDonald charity house, where the family were able to stay while Caleb was being treated.

"Police in Newry are appealing for witnesses to a robbery at a casino destination on Monaghan Street in Northern Ireland. The man is described as being in his mid-20s.

"Police have appealed for any witnesses or any doorbell or dashcam footage that may help identify the man who held up the casino at knifepoint.

"Pressure is mounting on the gambling industry as councils across the UK set their sights on calling for reforms to gambling laws.

"In one of the latest developments relating to planning applications, three Surrey councils have signed an open letter to the secretary of state for culture, media and sport, along with 40 others from across the country, calling for reform of gambling laws, which would impact land-based and online casinos. The letter has also been endorsed by the all-party parliamentary group on gambling reform.

"It follows the approval of a new gambling facility in Ashford, Surrey, at a former bank, which drew a number of objections from local residents. Hundreds of letters were sent objecting to the application by Astro Property (MK) Ltd., which was approved on appeal by a planning inspector. Spelthorne’s MP, Lincoln Jopp, also opposed the plan.

"Beginning next week, a long-rumored move will take place that makes for the largest regulated online poker player pool in US gaming history. Pennsylvania will join the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement, pooling its players with the other five members of the compact: Delaware, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey and West Virginia.

"Reflecting this change, one of the prominent poker operations in Pennsylvania, BetMGM, will look to ramp up its online poker operations ahead of a live event later this year in Las Vegas.

"And finally, the International Casinos Day Awards have officially opened. The inaugural awards celebrate casinos around the globe, from London to New Zealand.

"You can vote for your favorite casino wherever you are in the world, alongside other categories. To cast your vote, check out the link in the description, where we're giving away some amazing prizes to celebrate the first-ever International Casinos Day on May 15.

"That’s it for now. Don’t forget to visit casinos.com to subscribe and sign up for all our special offers and free giveaways.

"Bye for now."

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
