Golden Kilfeacle GAA’s weekly bingo fundraiser will get a major boost as the Liam MacCarthy Cup and Tipperary hurlers join the fun by hosting a night of Bingo, Community, and Sporting Glory

Golden Kilfeacle GAA is preparing for a standout Blue & Gold Bingo Night on Thursday, October 9, at the GAA complex main hall in Golden. Games start at 8 p.m., but the evening offers more than cash prizes and numbers on a board.

The Liam MacCarthy Cup, the most coveted trophy in hurling, will be in attendance. Members of the 2025 All-Ireland-winning Tipperary team are also expected, giving locals a rare chance to celebrate with both the silverware and their sporting heroes.

Bingo Matters for the Club

While the spotlight will shine on the Cup, the bingo itself is the lifeblood of Golden Kilfeacle’s fundraising efforts. Weekly bingo nights regularly attract strong crowds, with over €2,500 in prize money typically up for grabs. Past events, including “drive-in bingo” during restrictions, proved “another great success,” highlighting how vital the game has become for club finances.

Funds raised help the club invest in facilities, equipment, and youth development, ensuring the next generation of players has the resources they need. By combining community gaming with sport, Golden Kilfeacle is keeping both tradition and progress alive.

The Significance of the Liam MacCarthy Cup

First awarded in 1923, the Liam MacCarthy Cup is presented annually to the winners of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. The original trophy is now housed in the GAA Museum at Croke Park, while an identical replica has been in use since 1992.

This year, Tipperary defeated Cork 3-27 to 1-18 to claim the title, overturning a half-time deficit in one of the most dominant second-half performances in championship history. For Golden Kilfeacle supporters, hosting the Cup is more than symbolic, it’s a reminder of the county’s sporting legacy and the pride it brings to local clubs.

Community First, Fun Always

Golden Kilfeacle GAA expressed gratitude to those who regularly support the bingo nights and encouraged new faces to attend. With cash prizes, the Liam MacCarthy Cup, and All-Ireland champions all in the hall, the October 9 bingo promises to be more than just a fundraiser, it’s a celebration of sport, community, and tradition.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
