Oregon is known for its breathtaking landscapes, outdoor adventures and its quirky culture. But when it comes to casinos, there’s nothing quirky about it. Oregon follows many other US states in only allowing tribal casinos within its borders.

There are currently eight Indian tribes that own casinos in Oregon, the only other casino-style gambling allowed is raffles and charitable casino nights for not-for-profit organizations.

So, let’s take a closer look at Oregon casinos to find out where and what you can play.

Oregon Land-Based Casino Operators

There are a total of 10 casinos in Oregon, owned by 8 different tribes. Under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988, these casinos usually have to be built on reservation land. However, four Oregon tribes have negotiated to develop casinos off-reservation.

Some of the big casino operators are:

  • Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua & Siuslaw Indians of Oregon – Operate two casinos in Oregon – Three Rivers Casino Resort Florence and Three Rivers Casino Resort Coos Bay
  • Coquille Tribe of Oregon – Operate The Mill Casino Hotel
  • Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Reservation – Operate Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln
  • Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon – Operate Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde
  • Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Indians of Oregon – Operate Seven Feathers Casino Resort

Oregon Casino Resorts

Let’s take a closer look at three Oregon casinos to see how they compare:

  • Chinook Winds Casino – Located just a few steps from the beach in Lincoln City, Chinook Winds resort offers 243 rooms including 160 oceanfront rooms, a 18-hole golf course, driving range, fitness center, arcade and several restaurants. The large casino has over 1,000 slots, 33 live table games, keno, a 300 seat bingo hall and a sportsbook.
  • Spirit Mountain Casino – Located in Grand Ronde, 60 miles south of Portland, Spirit Mountain has 250 rooms, a TopGolf Swing Suite and multiple restaurants. The casino has around 2,000 slot machines, 33 live table games, keno and a sportsbook.
  • Seven Feathers Casino Resort – Situated in Canyonville, the resort features 300 hotel rooms, a spa, indoor pool, fitness center, arcade and six restaurants. The casino offers 900 slots, 26 live table games, bingo and keno. Outside of the resort is Skookum Hyak, the largest bronze casting of an eagle in the world at  over 33 feet high and weighing over 10,000 pounds.

More Than Gambling

Oregon is a place of beauty and there are lots of things to see and do while you’re in state such as:

  • Nature – If you love the outdoors, then you’ve got to check out Crater Lake National Park. It has the deepest lake in America, and is known for its vibrant blue color and volcanic origins. The Painted Hills is also a great spot with spectacular multi-coloured hills that look straight out of a movie.
  • Outdoor Activities – If action is more your thing then head to Mount Hood where you can go skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and climbing. Alternatively Columbia River Gorge is a windsurfers dream with Hood River as well as gorgeous waterfalls and hiking trails.
  • Portland – The biggest city in Oregon attracts the most visitors and there is plenty to see and do. Portland has an unofficial motto of ‘Keep Portland Weird’ which can be seen on bumper stickers, signs and buildings which is meant to represent the city’s individualism. Portland is known for its food trucks, microbreweries, coffee shops, and hipster culture.
  • Fun Days Out – Oregon has lots of beaches to explore, such as Bandon Beach, Nye Beach and Cannon Beach, but there’s also other fun days out such as Oregon Coast Aquarium, Willamette Valley Wine Tour, Enchanted Forest, and Wildlife Safari.

Important Considerations

The legal age for gambling in Oregon tribal casinos is 21 years and over. It is always advisable to take along photographic ID.
