Fantasy and Vikings have always proven to be a solid mix for online slot developers, and Popiplay is throwing them together once again for the Raven Bjorn online slot game. Fans of IPs like Vikings, Game of Thrones, and God of War will love this game’s aesthetic, but does it deliver on the gaming front? Join me as I find out in this Raven Bjorn online slot review.

Popiplay always delivers nicely designed online slot games, and Raven Bjorn is no different. The slot takes place in a barren wilderness, with giant stone pillars bordering the game grid. Skulls and charms hang from the corners, while Vikings, bears, ravens, and Norse imagery fill the reel as symbols.
Like most Viking-themed slots, this game also features an intense, menacing soundtrack that helps to fill out the game’s world.
The Viking and fantasy combination always lends itself to some great visuals, and Popiplay has really done a good job of bringing it all to life.
Popiplay has opted for a basic approach for the Raven Bjorn slot. The game has a standard 5x3 set-up with 25 paylines on each spin. Players land a win when they hit three matching symbols across a line on consecutive reels.
All of the game controls are underneath the grid. You adjust the stake using the +/- buttons, and you can access the paytable and general information using the burger menu in the bottom corner.
Raven Bjorn has three bonus features for players to enjoy: free spins round, a hold and spin bonus with three jackpots, and a Gamble feature.
This feature can be accessed by clicking the card symbol on the control panel whenever you land a win. You will then attempt to correctly guess the color of a face-down card to double your cash. If you get it wrong, you will lose.
These are the only ways to trigger the bonus rounds, with Raven Bjorn not having a Buy Bonus feature.
After giving the game a brief test run using the Raven Bjorn demo for free, I took the slot for a spin for real money. I set my stake at $0.50 and used the autospin feature for 50 spins.
After around 15 dead spins, I managed to trigger the Free Spins. Despite the giant symbol being active in the game, this didn’t throw up any huge wins, with my biggest win being $5.65. I also managed to land a win for $3.20 during the round.
The remainder of the spins threw up some small wins, but I didn’t come close to securing anything huge. Overall, I ended up slightly down from my 50 spins, leaving the game with about $20 from $25 spent.
Unfortunately, the Raven Bjorn math model will not likely get many pulses racing. The game’s maximum win is a disappointing 2,500x the player’s stake, which is lower than what you would find in a lot of top online slots. The return to player is 96.00%, and the volatility is medium-high according to Popiplay’s scale.
Like most Popiplay slots, Raven Bjorn looks fantastic, and the gameplay is solid enough. The Viking and fantasy combination always lends itself to some great visuals, and Popiplay has really done a good job of bringing it all to life. Unfortunately, the lack of a decent maximum win will deter most players, with a 2,500x maximum prize being underwhelming.
If you want to test out some other Vikings-themed action, plenty is available. The Vikings slot from NetEnt is an excellent offering. Relax Gaming’s Volatile Vikings is also one of my favorites, with the slot putting a quirky twist on the theme.
