Mayan-themed slots are not always a great pick, even for adventure fans. They tend to be too bland and uninteresting to play, and most look the same. HungryBear and Yggdrasil’s Mayan Temple Riches certainly looks the part – and a bit familiar – but it has a few features to get excited about.
A highly volatile slot with 20 paylines, Mayan Temple Riches is easy to play. It’s a relatively straightforward experience with wilds and the usual free spins round in the focus. But, underneath the relatively familiar facade, there’s a slot with great winning potential. The maximum win can reach 10,000x in the bonus round, where the slot shines.
If you love Mayan adventures set in a deep jungle, it could be the slot for you. Take a look at my review of Mayan Temple Riches to discover its unique features.

Mayan Temple Riches is not unique in any way. Visually, it’s a slot set in a deep jungle that hides many ancient riches. The reels feature daggers, a priestess, and Mayan temples. This aligns with the slot’s theme, so nothing is unorthodox here.
The graphics are impressive, which is not unusual for Yggdrasil slots. The layout is standard, with transparent buttons on the right. The spin button occupies ample space in the right column, and the + and - buttons are easy to access to set your bet.
Regarding audio, it’s what you might expect. The epic soundtrack in the background picks up as you score wins or activate the special features. You can hear cool sound effects whenever you score a win, so, once again, it’s a standard set of sounds complementing standard Mayan visuals.
The Mayan Temple Riches slot is a familiar affair in a familiar setting. It’s not unique in any way. The random wheel feature can award solid modifiers, but it’s definitely lacking compared to other Yggdrasil slots.
Before you embark on this adventure, you have to choose a casino site, load the game, and place a bet. Choose from 20c to $25 per spin and click (or touch) the spin button to start. For a win, you need three or more matching symbols on one of the 20 paylines. The priestess is the highest-paying premium, offering wins of 10x for five on a line. It’s bested by the Temple Wild, which pays 50x for the same combo.
The base game comes with a random modifier wheel. It can kick in on any spin. When it does, it awards one out of three modifiers:
The wild modifiers can make for some genuinely lovely wins. I only managed to get up to two fully wild reels, but if you land more, your winnings will increase significantly.
The bonus round in Mayan Temple Riches triggers when three or more scatters land on the reels. It’s called Keys to Riches and presents you with eight chests and eight keys. You must match the right key with the right chest to unlock the prize.
Each successful match advances you on the trail to riches by one position. The top prize is 10,000x the bet, which is decent for a slot of this kind. You cannot retrigger the bonus round, so you can only enter it from the base game.
There is also no bonus buy option. It would have been much better for the developer to add this option, as it would have cut back on the time needed to get to the free spins round.
Mayan Temple Riches was less rewarding and exciting than what I usually expect from real money online slots from Yggdrasil. It’s almost a run-of-the-mill Mayan-themed slot except for the base game modifiers. Even with them, it’s not that unique. But, I can say that the full reel wilds and wild spirits can lead to some decent wins. I hit a maximum of 20x with the former, which is OK for a base game hit.
It took a long time to reach the bonus round. I matched three pairs of keys and chests. However, the winning potential leaves much to be desired, as hitting the maximum projected win means you must match them all.
Mayan Temple Riches has an RTP of 94.00%, which is OK for slots with high volatility. The maximum you can win is 10,000x the bet.
The Mayan Temple Riches slot is a familiar affair in a familiar setting. It’s not unique in any way. The random wheel feature can award solid modifiers, but it’s definitely lacking compared to other Yggdrasil slots.
What I didn’t like the most was the no-retrigger rule for the bonus and the lack of a bonus buy feature. You'll want to check another slot if you’re used to buying free spins.
I can definitely recommend Mayan Multi Mayhem by iSoftBet, which has a higher RTP and uses the Cluster Pays system. Mayan Stackways by Hacksaw Gaming is another more advanced title that’s much more fun to play than Mayan Temple Riches.
