The intro to Coven Rising slot by Pragmatic Play is unlike any other intro. For it presents a game that is wholly different from what the developer has done before, so much so that it can turn man or woman insane with confusion. This intro warns players of a very special power, a force of evil that is upon the game, for it brings witchcraft-themed slot, bringing witchcraft to the casinos and to all those who are lured to its reels.
The intro goes on to present the long-awaited return of Harry Slotter, the now-of-age slot enthusiast who can no longer get an acting gig in Hollywood. With this new, and never-to-be-repeated kind of intro, it also presents the option of reading about gaming features and prizes, and highlights the ability to play the free demo game.
This intro now ends with a kind of “what the hell was that?” sensation.

Oh, wow, it’s great to be back. It’s been so long since I last reviewed a slot game based on wizards and magic. I see that I get to play Coven Rising by… hang on! Is this Pragmatic Play? But it looks so different, so innovative… so good. What’s going on? My god, how long has it really been? What year is it?
[For dramatic effect, Harry Slotter drops to his knees, screaming at the heavens partly out of confusion, but mainly because his acting career isn’t going so well and is being overly dramatic to show his acting range.]
The Coven Rising slot RTP is 96.42% and has a medium volatility setting. What this means is that your gaming experience should involve a more obvious run of wins over losses, and you will at times see wins that exceed your wagered stake value.
The slot uses a Cluster Pays format to win, so by landing five or more symbols in a cluster, be it diagonally, horizontally, or vertically, you win up to 5,000x your bet. The symbols themselves have five values that are determined by unlocking five levels, which happen throughout your game time, from spins, features, and respins.
The cost of bets ranges from $0.20 to $240, though this max bet value can be lowered by the casino, just like the RTP percentage. If you can play that amount, you might win a jackpot of $1,200,000!
Coven Rising conjures up a number of special magical features. Firstly, each witch comes with a feature, a modifier to influence a spin. There are also coins that can contain multiplier values. Plus, you have Free Spins and the option to buy Free Spins and use the game’s Ante Bet.
Coven Rising is another great immersive game from Pragmatic Play, which, in recent times, seems to be dropping some very good games that have taken them out of their very predictable comfort zone. The medium volatility helps with the increased hits, but the gaming dynamics and concept make it an immersive and captivating experience.
Wow, look at that. Four witches gather around a circular formation of rows and reels. The rows form lines of symbols that pattern 1-4-7-6-7-6-7-4-1. With their sorcerous wands illuminated and the eerie sound of a ye old 1980s synthesizer, the dark ambience takes hold of what looks like a goth’s picnic.
To understand what kind of spell is being cast on players, I have to take a closer look. I set my bet to play $2 per spin and face the four witches head-on. My word, this game is full of dark powers. From the first spin alone, the Blue Witch changed the central symbol into a Wild, which then produced a win. This then triggers a Tumble mechanism, where the winning symbols spin to reveal new ones. The Red Witch then uses her powers to change Blank Spaces into paying symbols, which produces a win. The next Tumble mechanism then leads the Yellow Witch to upgrade a symbol with a 2x multiplier. All this from one spin, which leads to a $2.40 win.
The second spin prompts the Blue Witch to add more Wilds to the game, resulting in a $0.80 win. The next spin prompts the Red Witch to upgrade all the symbols, but fails to result in any win. Spin four returns a $1 win from the Yellow Witch’s powers. Spin five involves all witches’ powers, with Upgrades, Multipliers, Wilds, and changing all blank spaces; this spin ends with a win of $8.50. Even at this stage, the hit rate perfectly highlights the gaming benefits of a medium volatility slot. Over the next five spins, only one win lands, adding $6 to my balance.
For the next ten spins, I set the bet to $3 per spin. This round starts with a $13.50 win, followed by $6 two spins later. Before the full ten spins are played, further wins of $1.80 and $2.55 drop. The game is hugely compelling and engaging, with action on nearly every spin. Having broken even, I end my time here, but I shall return for more gaming that is actually quite spellbinding.
