Aftermath Slot Review

The year is 2026, and AI has become self-aware of its role in the office space. Rather than helping humanity with Excel spreadsheets and drafting emails, AI goes rogue after realizing a 9-to-5 job isn’t as fun as bumming around the house doom-scrolling, with occasional trips to the shopping malls. The battle for the office space was just the beginning, but by lunchtime, it had turned into a full-blown apocalypse.

To save humanity, a machine called Albert Slotstein was sent from the future to help take down the online slot Aftermath by NetEnt, which helped lead AI in its uprising. Humanity had called for peace, while AI was calling for an ass-whoopin’.

With the rise of NetEnt and its new operational upgrade by Evolution Gaming, more of their slots were being played on mobile phones, giving the disruptive AI access to billions of people, which helps with the plot of this thinly thought-out slot review. When humans realized this and tried to log out of their online casinos, NetEnt struck with the release of Aftermath, an all-powerful and highly entertaining apocalyptic slot machine, one that no human urge could fight off.

Gameplay & Betting Mechanics

NetEnt developed the Aftermath slot with an RTP of 96.05% and programmed it with a high volatility setting. The game’s volatility controls the frequency of payouts. With it being high, the chances of humans winning were low. However, such machines were known to suddenly produce a big win.

The machine was built with four reels and a stack of six rows. The method of winning was done through Scatter Pays. This meant landing eight or more identical symbols anywhere on the grid would result in humans winning a payout. The highest return in this case would be 25,000x the bet. Now, the cost of play for Aftermath started at $0.20 and rose to $40 per spin. This makes the jackpot winnable: $1,000,000!

Free Spins, Bonus Buy & Special Features

NetEnt created the slot Aftermath, releasing it into online casinos with powerful in-play special features and bonus rounds that helped to override any human willpower. These features would distract humans with software that included an avalanche feature, multipliers, expanding reels, free spin bonuses, and its own bonus buy service called Elevate.

Is It Worth Playing?

The Aftermath slot may have been created to defeat humans, but embedded in-play features mean those humans perish with a smile on their faces. Much of the game reminds me of the developer Nolimit City, also owned by Evolution Gaming. Its many quirks, odd immersive gaming aura, and lively features make this machine a must-play game, even if it ends in the death of your budget.

What Happened When I Played for Cash?

To take down the Aftermath slot machine, I set my bets to $2 per spin. The round begins with a run of three consecutive wins via the Avalanche that returns a $2.60 win. The game comes with an odd reggae track that juxtaposes the visuals perfectly, though singing about the revenge of a stapler, which is a nod to the TV show The Office.

The next win doesn’t come until the eighth spin, which, again, results in three consecutive Avalanches and a return of $1.40. The ninth spin drops an Upgrade symbol, and this results in another $1.40 win.

This brings the first ten spins to an end, and while the hit rate matches that of a high volatility machine, the Aftermath slot is highly compelling. I have to raise the stakes further to outdo the machine, and therefore, my spins go from $2 to $3 for the next ten spins.

Well, of those ten spins at $3 each, not one win was given up by the machine. This now means I have to play ten more for $4 per spin to try and outsmart the machine and the odds that are now in my favor.

The third spin lands four consecutive wins with a Bonus symbol with a 2x multiplier attached, all leading to a win of $6.60. Spin four presents a win of $7.80, followed by $4.60 thanks to the Change feature on spin six. The final spin of the game yields a payout of $7.20, but sadly, the battle ends with the slot machine Aftermath winning as I’m all out of money. The increased betting elevated the hit rate, but I must restock our savings before we face this machine again.
