Sydney Sweeney turned 28 on Friday, September 12, but it feels like she has been in the news forever.
The actress appeared in the likes of dystopian drama "The Handmaid's Tale" and teen drama "Pretty Little Liars" before the part of Cassie Howard in psychological teen drama "Euphoria" catapulted her to further fame in 2019.
Since then, Sweeney has starred in several big-screen projects, including Marvel's "Madame Web" and Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," as well as a successful stint in the HBO TV series "The White Lotus", among many other projects.
But her next movie, "Christy," could be a career-defining role.
In the biopic, Sweeney stars as former professional boxer Christy Martin, who was a huge star in the ring, but she suffered a toxic marriage to her ex-husband and trainer Jim Martin, who abused and controlled her.
The movie will be released on November 7th, and it is attracting plenty of early Oscars buzz for Sweeney.
While most Sweeney fans will have to wait patiently to see their beloved star as Martin, the movie had its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on September 5th.
According to The New York Times, the crowd at the film festival "burst into applause" when Sweeney's character landed her first punch.
Some have said her role in "Christy" has realigned her as a serious actress - but wasn't she always one?

Sweeney received two Emmy nods in 2022, for "Euphoria" and "The White Lotus."
She also starred opposite Glen Powell in the romantic comedy "Anyone But You," which was a box office triumph.
However, some fans may have lost a bit of confidence in the star following her appearances in "Madame Web" and box office bombs "Americana" and "Eden."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, those close to Sweeney feel she is "being unfairly maligned" over the ensemble flops.
And while the blame doesn't lie at Sweeney's feet, her acting career does seem to be on the ropes somewhat and in need of a resurgence. Which is why "Christy" could be the perfect movie to put her back on track.
Sweeney worked incredibly hard to physically transform herself into real-life champion boxer Martin, gaining 30 lbs of muscle and learning how to box in intense training sessions.
Speaking about the transformation, Sweeney told Deadline, "I absolutely loved it.
"I truly felt Christy’s power as I transformed. And I really enjoyed being able to train and work with incredible boxing coaches and weight trainers and nutritionists that helped me get to the place that I was for Christy."
And Sweeney could be set to reap the rewards, because she is just 5/4 to earn an Oscar nomination next and 2/1 to go on and win her first-ever Academy Award.
At the Toronto Film Festival, an emotional Sweeney received a standing ovation as she took to the stage at the film festival, alongside the real Christy.
Martin said of the star's portrayal, "She got to be this totally different person that none of you expected.
"She wasn’t the beautiful, sexy Sydney - she was the tough, rugged Christy in this movie, and I think it’s awesome."
Another star who is a big fan of Sweeney's is Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.
Sweeney was a surprise guest at Jeff and Lauren Sánchez's wedding in Venice, Italy, in late June, but it was later revealed the actress was launching a lingerie brand with backing from a Bezos-linked investor.
Sweeney has recently been linked to Bezos in another roundabout way, too.
The businessman's Amazon MGM Studios recently acquired creative control of the James Bond film franchise, and Sydney has been linked to the next movie.
In July, it was reported in The Sun on Sunday that the forthcoming film's new director, Denis Villeneuve - who is pals with Sweeney - wants the White Lotus star to be the next Bond Girl.
A movie source told the publication, "Sydney is the top name on the casting sheet for Bond. Denis believes she is hugely talented, as well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations, which is vital in modernising the franchise.
"They’ve hung out together a lot and he has admired her stratospheric rise."
Sweeney is 13/8 to be cast in the next Bond movie, and it's 5/2 she launches a business with Bezos next. But the star could have musical aspirations instead.
The star is currently dating US businessman Scooter Braun - who is credited with discovering singers Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande - and Sydney is just 3/1 to launch a Braun-backed music career, and it's 8/1 the couple gets engaged next.
In the lead-up to "Christy"'s release, Sweeney will no doubt be on the promotion trail for the hotly anticipated movie, which could include her first-ever American Vogue cover (6/4).
But she may take a step back from adverts for a while.
This comes after somewhat of a summer of discontent for Sweeney, after she was caught in the firing line following an American Eagle Jeans commercial.
In the advert, Sweeney is putting on a pair of jeans and says, "Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair colour, personality and even eye colour. My jeans are blue."
Critics slammed the commercial, with some claiming it had an undercurrent of eugenics.
However, American Eagle hit back, saying on Instagram: "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone."
One person who is no stranger to controversy is current US President Donald Trump, and he waded into the debate, too.
Amid the controversy, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the HOTTEST ad out there. Go get 'em, Sydney!"
And Trump's spokesperson Steven Cheung wrote on X: "Cancel culture run amok. This warped, moronic, and dense liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024. They're tired of this bulls**t."
Trump's comment came after it was revealed Sweeney registered as a Republican voter in Florida a few months before he landed his second US presidency.
If all goes wrong in Sydney's acting career, there might be a spot for her in Trump's government.
But she is a massive 20/1 to take on such a position next.
Her American Eagle controversy came just weeks after she was criticised for turning her used bathwater into limited-edition bars of soap.
The star admitted her Bathwater Bliss product - in association with Dr. Squatch - was "weird," but no doubt she cleaned up with the unusual item.
Speaking about it, Sweeney said, "When fans start asking for your bathwater, either ignore it or turn it into a soap. It's weird in the best way."
Whether she's selling bathwater soap or in the gym putting on 30 lbs to portray a former pro boxer, Sweeney is certainly a hard worker - and she likes to be busy.
In August, she told the Wall Street Journal newspaper, "I get anxiety thinking about just taking a few days off.
"But if I wanted to lock everything in, I could probably be booked for the next three or four years."
And whatever she opts to do, it will no doubt be something her older self will be "proud of."
She added to the publication, "I’ve always said that I look up to the older version of myself. So I’m hoping that whatever I’m doing now, 40-year-old Sydney will be proud of."
