Gate City Review for April 2026

Gate City Casino might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of New Hampshire gaming, but it's quietly become one of the most interesting spots in the region. Sitting in Nashua, just off Route 3 and only minutes from the Massachusetts border, it's one of the largest charitable gaming destinations in the state and has gone through a serious transformation in the last couple of years.

What was once a billiards club is now a proper 23,000 square foot gaming floor with table games, a dedicated poker room, a DraftKings Sportsbook, and a slots floor that's had a complete overhaul. It's not Vegas, and it doesn't pretend to be, but there's a lot more going on here than most people expect.

Let's take a much closer look to see if it's one you should visit too.

Getting There

The address is 55 Northeastern Boulevard, Nashua, NH 03062, and honestly the location is one of the casino's biggest selling points. It sits right off Route 3, which makes it straightforward to find whether you're coming up from Boston or heading down from Manchester.

For anyone in the Boston area, you're looking at around 45 minutes to an hour depending on where you're coming from and how traffic on the I-93 corridor is behaving. Manchester is even closer, maybe 20 to 25 minutes.

Parking is free and there's a decent amount of it on site, though the lot can get busy on Friday and Saturday nights when the place is running close to capacity. The entrance is easy to find and the building is well-lit, so there's nothing complicated about arriving for the first time.

There's no hotel on the casino property itself, but Delaware North, the company that owns Gate City, also operates the Sheraton Nashua on Spit Brook Road, about ten minutes away. It's a 337-room property and a reasonable option if you want to make a night of it without worrying about the drive home. It's not a shuttle situation like some casino hotels, so you'd be driving or ridesharing between the two, but the proximity is useful.

Casino Review

Walking in, the first thing you notice is that this is a cleaner, more modern space than a lot of regional casinos. The expansion that Delaware North completed in late 2023 really shows.

The layout is open and well-organized, the lighting is bright, and the floor doesn't have that cramped, maze-like feel that some older gaming venues carry. It feels like someone actually thought about how people move through the space.

One essential thing you need to understand before you visit Gate City, and all other New Hampshire casinos, is how the gaming machines work here.

New Hampshire's charitable gaming laws mean the machines on the floor are a mix of Video Lottery Terminals and Historical Horse Racing (HRH) machines. The HHR machines look and function almost exactly like regular slots, so you'd never know the difference just by sitting down at one. The outcomes are determined by previously run horse races rather than a random number generator, but in practice the experience is the same. It took me a minute to wrap my head around it the first time someone explained it, but once you know, it doesn't really change anything about how you play.

The atmosphere is genuinely good. It's busy without feeling overwhelming, and the staff I came across were friendly and helpful. The crowd skews local, which gives it a nice community feel rather than the anonymous, everyone-is-passing-through energy you get at some bigger venues.

Table Games

The table games section is where Gate City has made the most visible investment recently. They've put in all-new tables, and it shows. The felt is fresh, the layouts are clean, and the whole area looks sharp compared to where it was even a year ago.

On the day I visited there were 19 live table games in operation, and the dealers I encountered were engaged and easy to talk to. So, even if you are still just figuring out the rules of a particular game, the vibe at the tables should be welcoming rather than intimidating.

The game selection is solid and covers most of what you'd want:

  • Blackjack
  • Bahama Bonus (a blackjack variant played with a 48-card deck, no tens)
  • Crapless Craps
  • Craps
  • Roulette
  • EZ Baccarat
  • Face Up Pai Gow
  • Ultimate Texas Hold'em
  • Crazy 4 Poker
  • Mississippi Stud

The Crapless Craps and Bahama Bonus options are a nice touch and add a bit of variety for people who like to try something different. Even I had never heard of Bahama Bonus before I saw it here, if truth be told, but it was fun.

Minimums vary depending on the day and how busy it gets, so it's worth checking ahead if you're working with a specific budget.

Slots

The gaming floor is extensive. It’s not Vegas-esque, but it’s easily big enough. Gate City now runs over 540 machines in total, a mix of VLTs and HHR titles, and the floor was reconfigured in late 2025 to give everything more breathing room. That means the casino feels pretty spacious compared to how it used to be. Or, at least, that is what the locals I spoke to told me.

One of the highlights is the Aristocrat Lounge, the first of its kind in a New Hampshire casino, which is a dedicated section of the floor focused on Aristocrat Gaming titles. You've got popular games in there like Cash Express Legend, Buffalo Ultimate Stampede, Dragon Link, and Spooky Link, alongside dozens of other Aristocrat titles spread across the wider floor.

Beyond the Aristocrat section there's a solid variety of machines across different designers. Video poker players have options too, including Jacks or Better and a few other variants depending on what's currently active.

The seating is comfortable and the floor gives you enough space to move. I was there when it was busy on a weekend night, and the energy built up nicely throughout the evening with machines going off and the occasional jackpot celebration. It's the kind of environment that keeps you engaged without becoming chaotic.

I’d generally describe the background soundtrack as a nice casino buzz. It helped that I was winning though. I might not have found listening to other people’s jackpots quite so jovial had the slots been cruel to me.

Sportsbook

The DraftKings Sportsbook at Gate City is a proper setup. There are 12 self-service wagering kiosks plus an over-the-counter window for placing bets, and the whole area is surrounded by multiple large-screen TVs. If you want to watch the game while you bet, this is a good spot to do it.

The sportsbook sits right next to the restaurant and bar area, so food and drink service is easy to access without losing your seat. It's not an enormous dedicated sportsbook like you might find at a major resort casino, but for a regional venue it's well done and clearly popular with the local crowd. That said, you got the feeling that on big game days it fills up fast, so arriving early if you want a comfortable spot is probably a smart move. That’s just a good general casino sportsbook rule of thumb, though.

Rewards Club

Gate City uses the Lucky North Rewards program, which is Delaware North's loyalty scheme across all of its gaming properties. Signing up is free and new members get up to $50 in freeplay as a welcome bonus, which is a decent incentive to get your card right when you arrive.

The earning structure is straightforward. Every $5 of gaming machine play earns you one point, while video poker works out to one point per $10. Table game points are calculated based on time played, game type, and average bet, so you'll hand your card to an employee before sitting down to make sure you're getting credit. Poker room play earns 15 points plus $0.50 in food credit per hour tracked.

Every 100 points you accumulate converts to $1 in redemption value, which you can put toward free play, food at the casino, or Sheraton Nashua hotel stays.

The program has recently expanded to include some genuinely interesting options beyond the casino itself. Gas cards, select retail gift cards, and access to Delaware North travel destinations like Tenaya at Yosemite, Yellowstone properties, and Kennedy Space Center are all on the table depending on your tier. For a regional casino rewards program, that means it has more range than most.

However, if you are not a local and don’t intend to visit often, I see little reason to sign up other than the freeplay welcome offer.

Did You Know?

New Hampshire launched the first modern state lottery in the United States in 1964, pioneering a model that every other state would eventually follow. Yet despite this gambling trailblazing, New Hampshire has never had a commercial casino. Every casino in the state operates under charitable gaming laws, meaning 35% of all gaming revenue must go directly to registered non-profit organisations. In 2025 alone, those donations totalled $64 million — making New Hampshire's casinos one of the most significant sources of charitable funding in New England.

Hotel Review

There's no hotel on the Gate City Casino property itself, which does tell you something about the size. The closest affiliated option is the Sheraton Nashua on Spit Brook Road, about ten minutes away by car. Delaware North owns and operates both, and your Lucky North Rewards points can be redeemed toward stays there.

The Sheraton Nashua is a 337-room full-service hotel and a solid base if you're making a weekend trip. It's a standard Sheraton property with all the amenities you'd expect, including a pool, fitness center, and on-site dining.

It doesn't have the convenience of walking out of your hotel room and into the casino like some fully integrated resort properties, and that is a major downer for me. In fact, it would probably stop me visiting again if truth be told, even if the short drive is manageable.

Be aware though that Delaware North has said publicly that moving the casino to the Sheraton site is a longer-term plan, so the on-site hotel situation may change down the road.

Where to Eat

Gate City keeps its food and drink operation focused but well executed. The main restaurant and sports bar is the hub of it, offering a menu that covers appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, flatbreads, soups, and salads. It's American bar food done properly rather than anything elaborate, and the quality from what I saw was genuinely good. Standard disclaimer here, though: I am just one person, so I can’t offer an extensive opinion of the menu as a whole!

The bar runs 20 or more draft lines alongside craft cocktails, which is more than enough variety for most people. Where Gate City earns extra points is the outdoor Beer Garden and Container Bar, which adds something different to the experience. You get fire pits, alfresco seating for larger groups, and space for outdoor games like cornhole. It's a genuinely pleasant spot when the weather cooperates and gives the venue a social dimension that a lot of casinos in this region just don't have.

Of course, what that does is cause more frustration over the hotel situation, as such great drinking options a car ride away from your hotel is not really ideal if you’re on vacation.

Pool and Spa

There's no pool or spa at Gate City Casino. The property is a gaming and entertainment venue rather than a full resort, so those amenities just aren't part of the picture here. The Sheraton Nashua, the nearby affiliated hotel, has a pool and fitness center so staying there would cover that gap.

What Gate City does have is a Beer Garden that offers a relaxed outdoor space if you just want somewhere to decompress without actually going for a swim. Beer gardens count as ‘spas,’ right? They certainly help my mental health.

Entertainment

Gate City doesn't have a dedicated entertainment venue or concert hall, but it does run a regular calendar of events and promotions worth keeping an eye on. The property hosts poker tournaments that draw players from all across New England, and the poker room has become genuinely well-regarded in the regional circuit.

Beyond cards, there are ongoing casino promotions, prize draws, and special gaming events that come around regularly through the Lucky North Rewards program.

The Beer Garden adds a social and seasonal entertainment element that works well in the warmer months. For people who enjoy watching sports as a form of entertainment, the DraftKings Sportsbook area is as good a spot as any in the region, particularly during football season.

It's not a place with headline acts rolling through every weekend, but the event calendar is active enough that checking the website before you visit is always worth doing.

Verdict

Gate City Casino has done something genuinely impressive in a relatively short time. What Delaware North inherited as a billiards club has been rebuilt into one of the more complete regional gaming destinations in New England. The table game selection is strong, the new tables look great, the poker room is well-regarded, and the DraftKings Sportsbook is genuinely good. The Beer Garden is a nice touch that most comparable venues in this part of the country simply don't have.

The main things to keep in mind going in are that the gaming machines work differently to a traditional casino floor, even if the experience feels the same, and that there's no on-site hotel. Neither of those is a dealbreaker, but it's useful to know before you arrive. If you're coming from Boston or anywhere in the greater New England area and want a solid night of gaming without the long drive or the Vegas price tag, Gate City is very much worth the trip.
