Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City Review for June 2026

Sioux City, Iowa is not a city most people would place on their casino bucket list. That is their loss. Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Sioux City opened on August 1, 2014 with a guitar-smashing ceremony, Aaron Lewis of Staind throwing the first roll of the dice, and a very clear ambition to be something more than just another regional gaming stop. A decade later, with over 5.3 million visitors through the doors, more than $210 million in jackpots paid out, and ten consecutive AAA Four Diamond awards for the hotel, the ambition has been largely justified.

What makes this property genuinely distinctive is where the hotel sits. Hard Rock took a 112-year-old historic Romanesque building in downtown Sioux City called the Battery Building and built a boutique hotel inside it. Preserved brick walls, exposed timber beams, and unique room shapes that could only exist in a building never designed for public accommodation create an atmosphere that no purpose-built hotel can replicate. It is the kind of place that surprises you.

Getting There

Hard Rock Sioux City sits at 111 West 3rd Street in downtown Sioux City, directly adjacent to Interstate 29. The downtown location makes it walkable from a number of other city attractions, and the freeway access keeps it well connected to the wider region. Sioux Gateway Airport is approximately 15 kilometers from the property, handling regional flights with connections to major hubs. Parking is available at the ramp on 5th and Pearl Street.

Casino Review

The casino floor covers 45,000 square feet, which is a solid footprint for a downtown property of this scale. The layout is contemporary and well organised, with the memorabilia collection woven throughout in a way that makes walking the floor feel like a genuine music museum experience. Hard Rock Sioux City holds over 190 pieces from the global collection, with items from Slash, Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash, Prince, Britney Spears, Steven Tyler, and Elvis Presley among the highlights. The property has contributed over $35 million to the Missouri River Historical Development nonprofit since opening, which gives it a community identity beyond just the gaming operation.

Smoking is permitted on the casino floor, which is the most consistent complaint according to staff I spoke to and worth knowing before you arrive. A smoke-free zone is available in the sportsbook area for players who prefer it.

Table Games

Hard Rock Sioux City has around 19 live table games on the floor, covering the core classics. On my visit the lineup included:

There is no dedicated poker room at this property. The table minimums are generally reasonable and accessible for casual players, which reflects the property's position as a downtown entertainment destination rather than a high-roller focused resort.

Slots

With more than 675 slot machines across the floor, Hard Rock Sioux City has a solid and regularly refreshed selection covering traditional reels, video slots, and video poker. Popular titles from the major developers are well represented alongside a dedicated high limit area for players who prefer bigger denomination games. The floor is well maintained and the machines are consistently updated, which is all you can ask for really.

Sportsbook

Hard Rock Sioux City has a Caesars Sportsbook on site covering all major sports and bet types including NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, college sports, and more. Live betting, futures, and parlays are all available. The sportsbook area doubles as the property's smoke-free gaming zone, which is a practical arrangement that gives non-smokers a comfortable place to play and watch simultaneously.

Rewards Club

Hard Rock Sioux City operates the Rock Star Rewards loyalty program, which is free to join on the casino floor. Members earn points on slot and table game play, which can be redeemed for free play, dining credits, hotel stays, and merchandise. New members can earn up to $500 cash on their first visit as a sign-up incentive, and the weekly promotions calendar is consistently busy with drawings, giveaways, and free play offers. The program is straightforward and well regarded by regular players. It is unconfirmed whether Hard Rock Sioux City will eventually tie into the broader Unity rewards programme at Hard Rock or if it will remain independent.

Hotel Review

The Hard Rock Hotel at Sioux City is one of the more interesting hotel experiences in Iowa. The 54 boutique rooms and suites are housed inside the historic Battery Building, and each room has its own character thanks to the building's unique architecture. Preserved brick and exposed wood beams sit alongside modern rock and roll decor, 55-inch flat-screen TVs, Keurig coffee makers, and Sleep Like a Rock premium bedding. Suites include king beds and dual 55-inch HDTVs. The hotel carries the AAA Four Diamond rating for the tenth consecutive year, a distinction achieved by only five percent of the 28,000-plus properties reviewed by AAA.

The Body Rock fitness center is available 24 hours a day and includes Peloton bikes and yoga programs. An outdoor pool and hot tub operate seasonally during the warmer months. Hotel guests also receive discounted tee times at nearby Whispering Creek Golf Club. The Sound of Your Stay program is a lovely touch, providing in-room record players and curated vinyl playlists that lean fully into the Hard Rock brand identity without feeling forced.

Where to Eat

Hard Rock Sioux City has two restaurants and three bars covering a good spread of options.

Main and Abbey is the standout, holding the AAA Three Diamond rating and generating some of the warmest reviews of any restaurant in the Sioux City area. The menu runs from fish and chips and BBQ wings to steaks and handcrafted cocktails, with 30 craft beers on draft and a relaxed gastropub atmosphere that works well for everything from a casual lunch to a proper evening out.

The Yards Whiskey Bar is worth a mention as a destination in its own right, specializing in whiskey, scotch, and bourbon with a selection that serious drinkers will appreciate.

Pool and Spa

An outdoor pool and hot tub are available to hotel guests on a seasonal basis during the summer months. The Body Rock fitness center is open 24 hours and well equipped. There is no full-service spa at this property.

Entertainment

Entertainment is where Hard Rock Sioux City genuinely sets itself apart from every other casino in the state. The property has two dedicated live entertainment venues, which is remarkable for a casino of this size.

Anthem is an 800-seat indoor live entertainment venue just off the casino floor, hosting concerts and performances from rock, pop, country, blues, and national touring comedy acts on a near-weekly basis. Since opening, Anthem has hosted almost 700 concerts, drawing artists including Slash, Clint Black, Rick Springfield, and George Thorogood. Battery Park is the outdoor companion, a 3,000-capacity summer venue that brings headline acts to Sioux City from June through August in an open-air setting named after the historic Battery Building that houses the hotel. Together the two venues have sold over 200,000 concert tickets to visitors from all 50 states and ten countries since 2014.

Verdict

Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Sioux City punches well above its weight in almost every department. The gaming floor is solid and well-maintained, the memorabilia collection gives the property a genuine identity, and the entertainment lineup is frankly outstanding for a casino in a city of this size. Main and Abbey is a restaurant worth visiting regardless of whether you plan to gamble, and the hotel inside the Battery Building is the most characterful overnight option in the region by a comfortable distance.

The smoking floor and the compact hotel are the most obvious limitations. Fifty-four rooms can fill up quickly, and advance booking is advisable for busy entertainment weekends. But for anyone within driving distance of Sioux City, this is a property that rewards a visit. USA Today named it one of the ten best casinos in the United States in 2017, and a decade of AAA Four Diamond ratings suggests the standards have held.
