It’s definitely become of my new favourite games to play, and that was after just one trip to Las Vegas, but you have to weather the high volatility to get the most out of it.

With 1024 ways to win, there aren’t set paylines, so you can pick up decent line pays on this game. But, if I’m brutally honest, it’s just all about the bonus rounds. The high volatility makes it difficult to land just one of them; landing two or three can seem impossible, but it’s worth it if you can.

Each of the new fireball features can be triggered by landing a single fireball on the reels. However, you are guaranteed a feature when you land four of them. To get a double or triple pop, you need to land a variation of them in one spin. For example: 

• 4 x Fire Spark = Fire Spark Feature only
• 2 x Fire Spark + 2 x Meteor Shower = Fire Spark and Meteor Show Features
• 2 x Fire Spark + 1 x Meteor Shower and 1 x Hot Zone = All three features.  

It’s important to note that all of the new bonuses in this game revolve around the basic Fire Link feature. They add cool new mechanics such as multipliers and supercharged extras, but the basic functionality is the same, so let’s take a look at that first. 

The standard slot bonus in all Ultimate Fire Link games - the Fire Link Feature is a hold and spin with a twist. Usually triggered by landing four fireballs on a single spin, the game grid opens up to an 8 x 5 grid, but with four locked rows and four open rows. You begin with three spins, and the aim is to keep landing fireballs on the open reels. 

Every fireball that lands resets the spins to three, but also helps to reveal the unlocked rows above. You need to land four fireballs to unlock each row, giving you more gaming space to land more balls. Each fireball has a numerical value or a jackpot amount (Mini, Minor, Major, Mega), and you collect all of these values at the end of the round, so the more you get, the bigger the win. 

The extra ‘3 pots’ features assist you in landing these fireballs in cool and exciting ways, so let’s take a look at those now. 

Appearing in both Desert Nights and Paradise Lights, the Fire Spark fireball is my favourite new feature. Before it begins, a wheel spin occurs within the Fire Spark fireball, displaying numerical values such as $10, $2,5, or a jackpot amount such as Mini. Whatever it lands on is the value of that ball, and for every new Fire Spark fireball that lands, you get that value. 

This can supercharge your winnings, especially if you get a high value to begin with. Plus, if you get a double pop of Fire Spark with Multi-Inferno, your Fire Spark value can be multiplied up to 8x in every square.

Probably my second favourite feature, this only appears in the Ultimate Fire Link Triple Nova Paradise Lights variation. Before the reels spin, a large multiplier appears on the screen, flickering between 2x and 8x, and settles on one overall amount, say, for example, it lands on 5x. 

Multiple 5x squares are then added to the reels, so when the fireballs drop, they can land in those squares and their values are multiplied. This works really well if you land a Fire Spark ball or a jackpot amount in a Multi-Inferno square. 

Only available on the Ultimate Fire Link Triple Nova Paradise Lights variation. This blue fireball spawns into new fireballs on the reels, increasing the overall value of the win and helping to unlock rows. 

Available only on the Ultimate Fire Link Triple Nova Desert Nights variation. The Meteor Shower bonus is probably the most visually impressive feature of the game. As the reels spin, as well as fireballs dropping from the top of the grid, a meteor shower rains down diagonally on the reels, dropping fireballs as it goes. It doesn’t appear on every spin, but when it does, it can help to unlock rows quickly and add more value to your winnings. 

Available only on the Ultimate Fire Link Triple Nova Desert Nights variation. During the Fire Link Feature, a Hot Zone ball can drop, igniting a small section of the game board. This increases the value of all fireballs in that area.

If you’re playing in a land-based casino, you’re going to pick up perks as you do. The most important benefit is player rewards points - just make sure you play with your card in the machine at all times. Then, of course, there are complimentary drinks, which are always a nice bonus. 

As upgrades go, this one is pretty spectacular. The original Ultimate Fire Link is a gaming floor favourite, but it has looked a bit tired in recent years. Light and Wonder have kept the game alive with different variations including the Ultimate Fire Link Cash Falls mash up released a couple of years ago.

But Ultimate Fire Link Triple Nova is next-level. Keeping the familiar Fire Link Feature but adding a series of supercharged twists that can single,  double, and triple pop to make every bonus different is a mastermind. Plus, the audiovisuals are pure cinema. 

The main issue facing players is high volatility. There’s a real risk that you can play this game for a long time and not trigger a bonus which is highly frustrating. Especially considering it's a bonus or nothing type of game. So, it’s definitely something to be aware of.
