If you love classic horror movies and want a truly cinematic gaming experience, then the Frankenstein slot machine will be right up your street. The first of Light and Wonder’s ‘Universal Monsters’ series, Frankenstein combines striking visuals with dramatic audio to give you an all-round spectacle on the gaming floor.
This slot stands out, and that’s not just because it’s housed in a bright electric blue 7-foot-6-inch cabinet. The head of Frankenstein’s monster is positioned right at the top of the screen, with eyes that seem to follow you around the casino. Plus, it’s virtually impossible to block out the loud shrieking calls of “It’s Alive…Alive!” across the casino either.
With a haunting piano score, flame-filled visuals, and sharp lighting bolts electrocuting dismembered heads on screen, Frankenstein is a horror fan's dream slot. It also has some pretty impressive monster jackpots to be won too.
Licensed by Universal and released in 2023, Frankenstein is available to play in all main casino markets, including land-based casinos across North America. The Frankenstein slot machine is not available to play online; however, it can be found in social casinos such as Jackpot Party and Quick Hit Slots.

Frankenstein is undoubtedly one of the most eye-catching games on the casino floor. You almost daren’t walk past without playing it!
The slot machine itself is bright electric blue and has crisp visuals and cinematic quality with sudden lightning bolts, a dramatic burning windmill and spooky graveyard as the key visuals.
Although most progressive jackpot slots show the amounts on screen, the Frankenstein slot goes one further. Each progressive is lit up in flame-red graphics across the main screen and directly underneath are a series of other values in boxes. These form a key part of the gameplay.
When it comes to the game’s audio, it is almost as striking as the visuals. A theatrical soundtrack accompanies the base game, along with crashing lightning sounds at regular intervals. The most distinctive audio, though, are the screaming mad-scientist-like voiceovers exclaiming “It’s Alive!” and “I Need More Power” as various features are triggered.
Frankenstein has a different payout dynamic from most other slots. Although it is possible to win money from regular line hits, almost all wins come from the persistent amounts that are visible on the screen at all times. These include Progressive Jackpots and other smaller values that can be increased via multipliers as you play.
Here are some key stats:
Frankenstein might look and sound incredible, but what about the payouts? Well, there is a Free Games Feature, but to be honest it’s all about the ‘It’s Alive’ feature on this game. In fact, when you get the free games, all you really want is more chances to trigger ‘It’s Alive’!
From a payout point of view, the good news is that decent wins can come on the base game and they can come fairly frequently. However, triggering the Free Games and hitting one of the progressives is really tricky. The medium to high volatility should at least ensure you get a game, though.
Let’s take a quick look at the key features of Frankenstein.
The six progressive jackpots - Mini, Minor, Maxi, Major, Super and Grand are displayed on the screen at all times along with other smaller values. As a note, the Grand jackpot is a wide network progressive and is only available on certain bet levels. For example, on the 1c demon only bets of $3 and above qualify.
All of the values can be boosted by a multiplier through the ‘Power Up’ feature which happens sporadically in the base game. Land a ‘Power Up’ symbol on the first reel, hear the cry “I Need More Power” really loud across the casino floor and multipliers will be added at random to the displayed amounts.
You can trigger the ‘It’s Alive’ feature at any time on the base game by landing the ‘It’s Alive’ symbol in the first reel. For it to activate, you need to land at least one head of Frankenstein’s monster anywhere on the reels. Ideally you want a full screen of heads and you want some with burning flames around them.
In true classic horror fashion, each head is then electrocuted by a bolt of lighting from one of the displayed values on the screen with a grimace and a cry of pain. The burning heads means you’ll get one of the flaming progressive jackpots rather than the smaller values. It’s a bit savage really, but the good news is you get to win those values and it looks pretty cool too.
Free games are triggered by landing three burning windmill Scatter symbols on reels one, three, and five. You start with eight free spins and an additional two rows are added taking it to a 5x5 game grid. Throughout the bonus all multipliers are locked so if you hit any Power Up multipliers you’ll keep them for the full bonus.
The aim of the game is to land the ‘It’s Alive’ symbol and lots of Frankenstein monster heads. An extra three free games can be retriggered by landing two Scatter symbols in the first and last reels.
Always remember to play with your rewards card when you play slot machines in land-based casinos. You can build up freeplay, climb tiers and earn more rewards in the long-run. Many casinos also offer complimentary drinks on the gaming floor too, so keep an eye out for the drinks service.
Visually, Frankenstein is as impressive as it gets on the gaming floor. It's bold, loud, and actually quite beautiful to look at. It offers a full cinematic experience. The ‘It’s Alive’ feature that can trigger on any spin keeps you on the edge of your seat. Better still, it can return some great wins.
I think the game is let down by the fact that it's single-reel focused. In order to trigger either the Free Games or the ‘It’s Alive’ feature you need a specific symbol or catalyst on the first reel. If you don’t get it, then it’ll likely result in a dead spin or a very poor payout. That means that it's quite one-dimensional when it comes to the payout mechanic. As I understand it, an updated sequel is soon to be released which fixes this particular issue.
Overall though, I’d recommend giving Light and Wonder's Frankenstein a whirl for pure entertainment value and a nice touch of horror in your slot play.

Frankenstein is available across North America and a few other international casino markets. Due to its large cabinet and imposing graphics it is usually easy to see on the gaming floor. If you don’t see it, you will usually hear it, just follow the cinematic soundtrack and the cries of “Its Alive” across the casino!
Yes, Frankenstein has Free Games, but the real money potential comes from the ‘It’s Alive’ bonus feature. Land an ‘Its Alive’ symbol on the first reel followed by Frankenstein’s monster heads and each head gets electrocuted with a value that you win. Free Games just allow for more chances to trigger ‘It’s Alive’.
The RTP of the Frankenstein slot game varies depending on the casino in which it is located. The game itself comes with an RTP ranging from 94% - 97% but the casino can set the game at any RTP within that range according to their own processes and local regulations.
