Bass Rush Express Slot Review

Area Vegas has spent years developing slot games around its Rush Express mechanics, most commonly in train-themed adventures. With Bass Rush Express, this developer, in collaboration with Games Global, finally swaps the railway for a fishing boat, bringing its familiar formula to one of the industry's most popular slot themes.

With a maximum win of 5,000x your stake, free spins, and jackpot-style features, there’s clearly plenty of potential built into this slot. The question that needs answering is whether there’s enough variation to keep things interesting, or if it ends up being more bait than bite.

Rod McReel will review this fishing-themed slot, bringing buckets of experience from life out on the water. If there’s real winning potential, he’s the one who’ll reel it in. If you prefer to explore at your own pace, you can play the demo version right here.

I was halfway through planning a quiet trip out on the water when Bass Rush Express landed in front of me, and let’s just say the fishing rods didn’t stand a chance of making it into the car. If there are cash-value fish on offer, I’m not the kind of guy who ignores the call of the reel.

I’ve been around enough fishing slots to know when one is worth my time, so I’m not jumping in blind here. What I want to see is whether I can land something memorable, or whether it offers just another calm day on the water with nothing biting.

Gameplay & Betting Mechanics

The grid is composed of 5 reels, 4 rows, and 20 fixed paylines, which is nothing you haven’t seen before. All the action occurs on a calm lake, with green water and underwater plants filling the lower screen. A fisherman sits in a boat under a low sun, holding a rod with a large bobber. Under him, the jackpot ladder is displayed, topped by the 5,000x Grand prize.

If you’re looking to reel in a big catch with $100 on your hook, you’ll be disappointed to find out that the coin range is $0.20 to $50 per spin. However, this should be plenty for most casual players. The RTP is a tasty 96.45%, while the medium-high volatility means wins may be less frequent, but can land in bigger bursts when they do appear.

To win, you need 3 or more matching symbols on a payline from left to right, starting on the first reel. Lower-value symbols include 10, J, Q, K, and A, paying 1x the bet for 5 of a kind. Higher-value symbols such as hooks, beers, hats, vests, and lure boxes pay between 2x and 5x the bet for five matching symbols.

The base game does a decent job of building anticipation, but the real opportunities come from the special features. So, let’s cast a closer look at what’s lurking beneath the surface.

Is It Worth Playing?

Bass Rush Express doesn't try to reinvent fishing slots, but it doesn't really need to. By combining the Rush Express mechanics with cash-value fish and jackpot features, Area Vegas has created a game that’s easy to get to grips with and potentially rewarding when the features start to connect.

If the special features don't land, sessions may feel a little underwhelming to some. Those who enjoy medium- to high-volatility slots and are willing to wait for the bigger moments will get the most out of it, while those who prefer frequent wins may find the pace a little slow.

While Bass Rush Express won't revolutionize the fishing genre, it delivers enough action, bonus rounds, and big enough winning potential to make it a catch worth keeping.

What Happened When I Played for Cash?

Rod McReel Lake Jackpotta Head of Rod & Reels

I kicked off my Bass Rush Express session with a $100 bankroll and $1 stakes, hoping to spend the afternoon hauling in fish with cash values attached. However, the first few dozen spins felt more like a sightseeing tour than a fishing trip, with plenty of fish appearing but not many finding their way into my keepnet.

Eventually, the Rush Express feature started showing signs of life, and a well-timed Fisherman symbol finally scooped up enough fish to put my balance back on speaking terms with me. I also landed the Pick Feature, which briefly had me dreaming about the 5,000x Grand jackpot before reality arrived with a much smaller prize.

By the time I packed up my tackle box, I was hovering around break-even with no monster catch to brag about. Still, I saw enough to understand where the slot's appeal lies. If you'd rather cast a few practice lines first, Bass Rush Express is also available in demo mode.
