Gardaí have identified a prime suspect in a violent robbery that occurred in broad daylight at a Longford casino last week, in an attack that left one woman injured and has triggered a significant police investigation.
The raid happened shortly after 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, 13 November, at Lucky 7 House Casino on Ballymahon Street, one of the main commercial strips in Longford town.
According to Garda reports, a man forcibly entered the premises and threatened staff with a weapon. During the incident, a female employee in her 30s was struck on the head. Emergency services responded quickly, treating the woman for injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.
The assailant, believed to be of Eastern European descent, fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed sum of cash. No arrests have yet been made, but investigators have identified a “person of interest” and conducted several searches in the area.
CCTV footage from Ballymahon Street and nearby premises has been collected to trace the suspect’s movements before and after the robbery. Gardaí have also taken multiple witness statements as part of the ongoing investigation.
“Gardaí attended the scene following report of an incident of robbery that occurred at a premises in Longford town on Thursday 13th November 2025 shortly after 11.45am,”
a Garda spokesperson confirmed.
“A woman (aged in her 30s) received injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time. A sum of cash was reported as stolen. No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.”
The robbery has raised safety concerns among both casino staff and the wider community, with locals shaken by the violent nature of the attack. Lucky 7 House, one of the few regulated gaming premises in the town, is cooperating fully with Garda investigations.
Casinos and betting shops in Ireland are regulated by the Gaming and Lotteries Act 1956 and its subsequent amendments, though a long-promised Gambling Regulation Bill aimed at tightening oversight remains in progress. The Lucky 7 House operates under existing legislation that allows for limited-stake gaming in licensed amusement halls.
This incident adds to a growing list of security-related issues in the region. While violent crimes involving casinos are relatively rare in Ireland, the Longford robbery highlights the ongoing need for heightened vigilance at gaming premises.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity near Ballymahon Street around the time of the robbery to come forward. No official description of the suspect has been released at this time, though sources suggest he may have ties to other criminal activity in the region.
Investigators continue to follow leads, with further updates expected in the coming days.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
