Most Luxurious Casinos in Louisiana

Louisiana loves gambling! The state even used to have a whole street named after the game of craps. Between river boats and brick and mortar casinos, there’s plenty of choice for where you can gamble.

The state’s 24 casinos are spread out pretty widely, from Baton Rouge to Bossier City, and everywhere in between. The casinos employ a total of just over 44,000 people, and while estimations of the number employed specifically by riverboat casinos can vary a little, it’s likely between about 9,000 and 15,000 at the moment. And what about the overall economic impact of gambling in the state? Well, it’s about $7.62 billion, which is quite a chunk.

If you’ve ever been curious to find out which are the most luxurious casinos in Louisiana, you’re not alone. Our Casinos.com team decided to investigate, with the help of Tripadvisor. We went off and checked the reviews of each casino for mentions of certain luxury-related keywords, and ranked them based on that.

These are the casinos we looked at:

  • Margaritaville Resort Casino
  • Harrah's Casino New Orleans
  • Louisiana Downs Casino & Racetrack
  • Coushatta Casino Resort
  • Horseshoe Casino
  • Golden Nugget Casino
  • L'Auberge Casino Resort
  • L'Auberge Casino Resort
  • Delta Downs Racetrack & Casino
  • Louisiana Downs Racetrack and Casino
  • Paragon Casino Resort
  • Treasure Chest Casino
  • Boomtown Casino

L'Auberge Casino Resort was rated the best of the best, with 10.77% on the Casinos.com Luxury Scale. There were 20 mentions of “comfortable”, five of “pleasure”, and even three of “fancy”. Ooh.

So what makes this one so special? Well, it’s billed as a Vegas-style resort with luxury rooms and seven on-site dining options. We found one review in particular that said “The shower was the size of a small room with a fancy showerhead and a bench. The bed was very comfortable, and there were plenty of nice pillows. If I get the opportunity, I would gladly stay here again!”

Any chance we could get a complimentary stay? We want to check out that shower for ourselves.

Moving on to number two on our list, we have Golden Nugget Casino, although it only got 7.45% on the scale. With just over 1,300 reviews, 11 called out “impressive” and eight mentioned “luxury”, so it looks like the Louisiana version of the Golden Nugget is just as good as the Las Vegas version.

“The room was outstanding, with a twist of luxury encouraging my holidays to be the best!!! I highly recommend this property as one of my very best vacation resorts!!!” said one review.

With all those exclamation marks, we sure hope it was good.

Finally, coming in at number three was Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, just behind Golden Nugget, with 7.32% Luxury. 92 of the 164 reviews gave the property either four or five stars, and the word “comfortable” came up eight times.

The casino boasts slots, table games, sports betting, and a luxury hotel complete with a pool. According to one review “The casino is really nice. They have an indoor pool and hot tub. They have shops, a movie theater, restaurants and lots of slot machines and table games”. Now that sounds like our type of vacation.

Top 5 Most Luxurious Casinos in Louisiana

Louisiana Downs Racetrack and Casino in Bossier City came bottom of the list, with 2.44% on the Luxury Scale. To put that into perspective, only three people mentioned any of our keywords, out of a total of 123 reviews. “tiny dark place, not clean, depressing atmosphere”.

As it's primarily a racetrack, maybe they weren’t necessarily aiming to offer a luxurious experience? But still, we assume they aren’t trying to make it depressing.

While the name Treasure Chest Casino makes this one sound like it could be rather opulent indeed, that doesn’t seem to be the case at all, as it ranked second from the bottom of our list. It only got 3.08%, but there were two mentions of the word “impressive”, so we went straight to the reviews to see what people had said.

“It looked pretty impressive from outside, being on a boat on Lake Ponchartrain and fully lighted at night. But to be honest, once we went inside, it was a HUGE disappointment”.

I stopped reading when they said it was on a boat. On a BOAT! How can that be disappointing?
