In the gaming and hospitality industry, the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) is a standout employer. Owned and operated by First Nations, SIGA is a non-profit organisation that reinvests 100% of its net income into local communities.

Operating seven casino destinations across Saskatchewan in areas including Carlyle, Saskatoon, North Battleford, Lloydminster, Swift Current, Prince Albert and Yorkton, SIGA offers meaningful career opportunities while supporting economic development for Indigenous communities.

Community and Growth: The Heart of SIGA’s Mission

SIGA has established itself as more than a gaming operator; it is a cornerstone of community development in Saskatchewan. In 2024–25, SIGA allocated CA$55,000 towards scholarships and logged over 3,100 hours of volunteer service. The organisation also formed 673 active partnerships, underscoring its commitment to long-term community impacts.

Employees describe the company culture as collaborative and supportive. Casino Shift Manager Janelle McGillis called it “fun, exciting and innovative”, pointing to the role teamwork plays in daily operations. Staff engagement and community connection are central to SIGA’s workplace environment.

A Premier Employer in Saskatchewan’s Casino Industry

SIGA’s approach to employee relations blends professionalism with a family-oriented atmosphere. Human Resources Officer Andrea Mantee noted the organisation’s strong community ties and support systems: “They are very family orientated. They are very good to the community.”

Beyond benefits and job security, SIGA employees often work on local initiatives—an aspect that sets the organisation apart in smaller or rural communities where such contributions are highly visible and deeply appreciated.

Developing Talent and Supporting Career Growth

Training and career development are a priority for SIGA. The organisation offers continual learning opportunities and leadership development modules tailored to various roles within the business. These range from conflict resolution workshops to core operational training sessions.

Asset Protection Manager Jordan Titarenko highlighted SIGA’s willingness to support employee growth: “My experience with learning and development with SIGA is that they hardly ever say no.”

This proactive investment in staff development supports internal promotion and long-term career paths within the organisation.

A Workplace Built on Belonging and Shared Purpose

SIGA’s workplace culture draws from guiding principles such as 'miskasowin'—a Cree term meaning “a sense of belonging and origin.” This value resonates strongly among staff members and is a defining feature of SIGA’s identity.

Many employees say working at SIGA feels like joining a family. “Working at SIGA, it feels like home here,” said Executive Chef at Northern Lights Casino, Genalyn Dioso. Others point to the strong team dynamic and daily support they receive, helping them perform with confidence and pride in their roles.

Why SIGA’s Opportunities Matter

For job seekers in Saskatchewan, SIGA offers more than employment; it provides a chance to contribute to a meaningful mission. The organisation’s nonprofit status, community investments, and focus on personal development make it a leading employer in the region.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
