In my opinion, only a handful of live casino game shows are as simple yet gripping as Evolution’s War. It’s built on the classic Casino War card game, only this time, it comes packed with loads of suspense and thrills.

The gameplay is pretty straightforward. Bet on whether your card will outmatch the dealer's card. You can also make a side bet, and this leads to the “Surrender” or “Go To War’ decision. I’ll describe how the game works, how to play it, and walk you through my experience playing War for real money in this review.

War is a live game show where you go into card combat with a croupier (they represent the casino) who deals the cards. The game’s war theme comes complete with maps, radar, and monitoring equipment, and creates the impression that you’re in for serious business. All the action takes place at the centre of a hexagonal table that features parts of a map on the sides of the baize playing area. 

War is played with an 8-card deck with 52 cards and no Jokers. The cards have the following values: 2, 3, 4,5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K, A, with the Ace being the highest-valued card, and the suits being irrelevant. Your goal is to bet on whether your card can be higher than the dealer’s card.

Gameplay starts with the betting phase, where you place your bets. During this phase, you can place a Main Bet (wager on your card beating the dealer’s card). With War, you can also bet on the Main Bet being a tie, so that’s two bets that you can place at the same time.

At the end of the betting phase, the dealer deals one card each to you and the casino. If your card has a higher value, you win. However, if the dealer’s card is higher, you’ve lost your bet. In the event that the values of both cards are tied, you’ll then get two options: "Go To War" or “Surrender”.

If you take the “Surrender” option, you’ll lose half of your bet, and the game round will end. Opting to "Go To War” means that you must double your main bet, and the game continues.  If you take the “War’ option, the dealer then deals another round of cards and picks one card each for you and the casino. 

Once again, you win if your card has a higher value than the casino’s card, and you lose if the casino’s card has a higher value than yours. If you win, you’ll get back your original bet amount, but if you lose, you lose your doubled bet.

In the event that a “Tie” occurs when you’ve gone to war, the same process is repeated until there’s a winner! However, the maximum number of “Ties” allowed in each War game round is four.

I like War’s Return To Player (RTP) and payouts. There’s a 96.56% RTP for the “Go To War” option, while the “Surrender option has an RTP of 96.27%, and the “Tie” bet has a 92.5% RTP. 

As far as payouts go, you’ll get a 1:1 payout if you win your ‘War’ Bet, while you’ll get 50% of your bet if you “Surrender”. I find the payouts for the “Tie” bets quite interesting, though, as you get a 10:1 for the first Tie. If there’s a Tie during the war, the payout for the Tie bet increases to 25:1 and increases to 50:1 if there’s another Tie. Should the game round result in a fourth Tie, the payout grows to 200:1.

I didn’t find any special feature in the War game. Each game round is as straightforward as it gets. You place a bet on the main game round. If there’s a Tie, you can then choose to either “Go To War” or "Surrender”.

The closest to a special feature in the game is the ability to place a side bet on a Tie with or without placing a Main Bet.

My first experience playing War for real money didn’t go as planned. I found the game at one of my favorite live dealer online casinos and decided to see if it was as good as the other Evolution live game shows I had played before.

My first move was to place a Main Bet of $10, but I lost the bet as the value of my card was lower than the dealer’s. I then placed another $10 bet, which ended in a tie.

The game gave me 60 seconds to make a decision and two buttons to choose from: a brownish “Surrender” button and a red “Go To War” button. I opted to “Go To War”, so I doubled my bet (the total amount I wagered was now $20). Thankfully, after dealing the cards and comparing them, I won the bet and was awarded $10. 

The game is pretty straightforward, as you either bet or you don’t. I didn’t place Tie bets because I figured that the odds of picking a Tie were less, and I’d be less likely to win any bets on a Tie. Overall, Evolution’s War is a great game to explore if you’re looking for some fast and straightforward live betting action.
