The Gambling Commission the UK regulator is rolling out new systems to modernise licensing, compliance, and enforcement, with minimal disruption expected for operators.
The UK Gambling Commission is preparing for a significant technology upgrade this September, replacing one of its main internal platforms with purpose-built systems. The initiative includes a new Case Management System (CMS) and improvements to core data handling and online services.
“Our current system was first introduced in 2008 to hold licensee data, manage applications, and record contacts,” said Danielle Trigg, the Commission’s Director of Licensing in Operations.
“It has served us well but is now reaching the limits of its capabilities.”
The changes are part of the regulator’s Corporate Strategy 2024–2027, which commits to evolving licensing, compliance, and enforcement processes while strengthening its digital infrastructure.
The transition is already underway. Trigg noted that while efforts are being made to ensure a smooth changeover, operators may notice slightly longer response times while staff complete training.
“There will be a brief system downtime of three days in September,” she said. “We will confirm the exact dates well in advance.”
Despite the upgrade, operators’ daily interactions with the Commission should remain largely unaffected. Minor adjustments, such as differences in casework emails, may occur. The regulator has promised to provide clear guidance ahead of any changes that impact operators directly.
The Gambling Commission sees the overhaul as a milestone in its digital journey, aimed at improving services, streamlining processes, and reinforcing long-term relationships with operators.
“As with all large technical changes, there may be teething issues,” Trigg said.
“We encourage you to let us know of any problems as soon as you see them so we can resolve them quickly.”

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
