Michigan's three commercial casinos in the Detroit area recorded $105.7 million in revenue last month, declining from the previous year’s figure of $110.8 million, and representing a year-on-year drop of 4.6%.

Despite this, table games and slot revenue flatlined month-on-month, with the three casinos reporting a 0.3% drop.
Of the three commercial casinos in the state, two experienced losses year-on-year, with the Hollywood Casino Greektown experiencing the highest loss of 13%, with revenue falling from $26.2 million to $22.8 million.

While commercial casinos in the state saw a loss, the Michigan Gaming Control Board was receiving an award for its responsible gambling commercial, “Mini Me”.
The regulator won the 2025 Platinum dotCOMM Award for its “Mini Me” commercial, part of the “Don’t Regret the Bet” campaign. The commercial was created to educate 18 to 24-year-olds about making responsible gambling choices.
The video, which featured a mix of both hand-drawn animation and live footage, reached just under 150,000 individuals and generated over 255,000 impressions, with over 13,000 clicks. Also featured on Gas Station TV, the commercial received over 2.2 million impressions, with a 100% completion rate.
“This recognition reinforces the effectiveness of our responsible-gaming messaging. The ‘Mini Me’ spot was intentionally designed to speak to young adults in a way that is approachable, relatable, and memorable. This award underscores that our message isn’t just being heard—it’s making an impact,” said Henry Williams, Executive Director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
The “Don’t Regret the Bet” campaign launched in early 2023 and has since won eight awards. In collaboration with King Media, it has used multiple platforms to display responsible gaming messages, including broadcast TV, digital billboards, social media, streaming services, and podcasts.
“We’re proud to see the ‘Mini Me’ spot recognized on an international stage. From the very beginning of our partnership with the MGCB, our focus has been on creating work that not only stands out creatively but also makes a measurable difference in people’s lives. This award validates the power of that mission—and it inspires us to keep pushing forward in our shared commitment to prevent problem gambling before it starts,” said President and Founder of King Media, Coleen King.

My love for gambling and casinos started early when my grandad handed me a video poker machine as a kid, sparking a lifelong fascination with the game. I grew up watching Celebrity Poker religiously and that turned into my organizing March Madness bracket tournaments all throughout elementary and high school—making every March a high-stakes competition among friends before I was even old enough to place a real bet.
