Employees from across the UK gathered this week for the annual Genting Football Cup, an event designed to bring staff together outside the casino floor. Teams representing Genting Casinos venues from Birmingham to Bournemouth competed in a day of sport that highlighted the company’s growing commitment to staff wellbeing and community.
The 2025 champions, Genting Hotel at Resorts World Birmingham, lifted the Cup after a nail-biting final. The runners-up, Genting Casino Birmingham Chinatown, won praise for their spirited performance, while Palm Beach and Genting Casino Bournemouth claimed the Plate after finishing strong in the later rounds.
The champions’ success was a point of pride for leadership. Andreas Tashos, general manager at Genting Hotel, Resorts World Birmingham, said he was “extremely proud of his team” and praised everyone involved in organising the tournament.
The win also drew attention from beyond the business. Karen Hodson, operations director at Warner Leisure Hotels, congratulated the Birmingham team, commenting online: “Great job Genting Hotel team!”.
While the trophies were hard-won, the bigger victory for Genting was in promoting staff health and wellbeing. The company said the tournament encourages employees to stay active, build camaraderie, and connect outside their usual shifts. One organiser summed it up:
“It was a fantastic day, had by all, here’s to next year!”
The initiative reflects a broader trend in the casino and hospitality industry, where wellbeing programmes are increasingly seen as vital to supporting staff who often work long hours in high-energy environments. According to the CIPD’s 2024 Health and Wellbeing at Work report, businesses that invest in workplace health see improved morale, productivity, and retention.
For Genting, the Football Cup is more than an annual fixture. It reinforces the company’s identity as an employer that values teamwork, wellness, and community, qualities that translate directly to better customer service across its UK casinos.
By investing in events that promote fitness and fun, Genting shows that casinos are not just places for guests to play but also workplaces where staff thrive.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
