The Gambling Commission has held its Operators Engagement Forum at The Kia Oval in London. The event was significant for the UK regulator and allowed them to have constructive face-to-face conversations with operators from across the gambling sector in Great Britain.
The Gambling Commission has taken on valuable industry feedback regarding how it conducts assessments, such as recent research into gambling youth harms. Feedback is welcome, too, on compliance checks, updates on enforcement activity and the implementation of the Gambling Act Review.
Danielle Trigg, Director of Licensing, said, “We are really pleased to say that this event has doubled in size in six months and with it only being our second one, which is absolutely amazing.
“I've been with the Commission for two years tomorrow and the first account management workshop that we did, we only had 45 attendees sign up." continues Trigg.
"That, to me, speaks volumes on how far we have come in terms of the relationship, but also the collaboration we're looking to achieve through compliance.”
Brendan MacDonald of Entain said, “I think there are two main things. One is just hearing from the Gambling Commission directly on some of the key topics, like the compliance initiatives that are going on, the assessments, the black market, financial vulnerability, and all those kinds of things.
But also, just catching up with other operators that we don't get to see all that often and hearing from small operators because we often, as operators, have our ways of doing things, but it is quite nice hearing from small operators on how they are approaching the same challenges with just a different solution.”
Joanna Whitehall of Merkur said, “I think it’s always really important to get together as a group of operators from different sectors and talk about the challenges that we find both with the membership section and also the anonymised sector of the business and how that plays out in terms of interacting with your customer.”
Danielle Trigg concluded by saying, “It was encouraging to see this event double in attendees since our first forum six months ago, and we would like to thank representatives who came along for their engagement, input and insightful comments throughout the day.
“We'll be hosting another forum event later this year so watch this space!”
Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
